I don't know how I'm going to do it, but I am going to somehow write something/create something to raise enough money to buy this desk so I can have a home office, maybe I'll build it myself. But this solves so many issues with the home office needs. uk.transformertable.com/products/two...

Slowly pulling the pieces together for life in the new flat. Writing has been slow, I have some short stories I have promised that are due, like, yesterday, trying to get writing in while this in-transit is tough, but I am finding moments. There's so much to do since we've been delayed by a month

Why the fuck wasn’t that done back in the 40s? I had no idea it existed. Well done sir. I can provide an alibi for you when in court. Swear to fucking anything this guy was buying me a pilsner hundreds of miles away. Yes your honor, I was visiting (looks at map) Brussels! We were in Brussels

An enormous fire all but destroyed an infamous Nazi-era guesthouse known as the Eagle’s Nest in southern Germany, according to the police, who said on Saturday that a man had been arrested in connection with the blaze.

The amount of sea lioning from AI boosters. “I’M jUst asKINg a QUEEEESSSTIOON“ and the refusing to engage is now to the point where I just block. The refusal to understand basic word definitions or existing law is just:

Some AI simps treat “fair use” like a magical +10 magic spell. “Wah, it’s fair use: I get to do whatever I want” “Stop complaining I kicked you: it’s fair use of my legs” “I stole these vegetables from a store: it’s fair use, we transformed what they were being used for”

It's so disappointing, because we could be looking at the cool uses of machine learning/connecting dots at a scale we can't and working beside us, but b/c billionaires pirated stuff and didn't want to properly license their data, it's a fucking mess. Billionaires ruin everything.

I've been meaning to write up a post about my views of AI. First off, I hate that it's called AI. That is misleading stealing of a specific term for marketing that has become a groupthink/religious term... ...that makes people think it's intelligent.

I still think AI systems should be paying me 150k per copyright violation. People keep asking me 'what laws do we need for AI?' and I keep saying 'enforce the fucking ones we already have!' There are copyright laws that should be being enforced right now that just... aren't. B/c it's billionaires.

Unethical, and super problematic. My laptop using ML to look for better ways to block spam based on my cues and what I delete and keep? That's ML, useful, guided, not using pirated material. But we can't talk about 'AI' until we get that stuff better sorted or there are tons of bad faith arguments

And the 'it's fair use' people who are simping for billionaires are pathetic cultists who argue in bad faith and refuse to look at the frequent documentation that shows the CEOs of those corporations *knew* they were stealing and even use the phrase 'pirating' and stealing. So that don't fly for me.

There's: Machine Learning Large Language Models and Generative Models trained on copyrighted material that was pirated. These are 3 different things, and so half the arguments are talking past each other. I can find training a machine on millions of properly licensed X-ray images a scientific win

That would be ethically used Machine Learning, when paired with careful social/legal rules about diagnosis, a boon to doctors/imaging. Could. A generative model trained on pirated material, well, we don't know how much it actually costs to train/create what it does. So it's illegal/dangerous

Fair use is the non-commercial use of something for transformative and artistic manner. You don't see any of those billionaires offering up the AI and forswearing profit? No? No? Fair use. Come on.

Is there any other business where I could steal groceries, resell them online, and then complain that if I had to pay I'd not have a business model? Because fundamentally that's what happened. And governments are looking the other way. It's so dispiriting.

All past income, not profit, income from AI should be chopped up by percentages of how much it was trained on and being given back to artists as a licensing fee. Period. If it isn't profitable, tough tiddies. It isn't profitable to steal either. Boo hoo.

Someone saw my blog post from SpaceXAI about looking for freelance work and offered my a $75/hr job training AI to write better fiction. I... Look, I'll do anything if it comes to needing to put food on the table for my kids, don't get me wrong. I'm a father first, but... FUUUUCCKKK NO.

Yes it’s a dreary day. Yes I’m doing an annoying errand that would normally be soul crushing. But fucking hell this is the view from the parking lot and I’ve been sitting here for five minutes taking it in. Really feeling lucky about our new location.

Question for UK/Scottish peeps: I’m noticing local businesses default to Facebook and very few have their own websites. Is there a shortage of web designers? Or a path dependency thing? It’s maddening to not be able to sign up for email updates or get to a site that disappears as FB refreshes/loses

This may confuse Americans who basically shop at a big box store that you drive for 2-3 weeks of groceries at a time, but basically in Europe the fridges are dorm room size, cupboards small, and the expectation is more “shop on the way home for tonight’s dinner”

For some products I do wonder if it actually generates more waste because it’s hard to find weak supplies. It took us three weeks to find a jar of almond butter for a kid that wasn’t 1.5 days worth as she’s on a restricted diet and it’s a favorite protein source.

I ”knew this” but it is still different living it. Not all folk, but the whole system here leans more toward and it’s baked in to habits and infrastructure in a way that is hard for outsiders to appreciate.

I am a little gutted bc I was looking forward to adopting this ourselves. Example: it took forever to find a tub of hummus for me that isn’t a day’s worth. I can now last two. I usually buy a tub 10X the normal size as buy one big one and work through it over the week.

Took a powerful painkiller this morning after putting it all in the wash. Ordering a new duvet inside thingy, the pillows seem okay. Hoping to pass out for a long morning nap and regain some equilibrium. A slow/lost day ahead, sigh.

It's sickening and the party needs to put a stop to it, I spend most of my day typing stop because of one fucking donation that go into their lists. They're killing off their future with this shit.

Adam Bonica@adambonica.bsky.social

Once mass spam texts were made legal, younger donors vanished, leaving a grassroots fundraising machine that subsists on squeezing vulnerable seniors, some of whom give hundreds of times a day. It’s a horrific model. Consultants get generationally wealthy, and the party hollows out its future.

Slow Horses really goes for the real world sort of violence where there's an element of luck/randomness to shit. Reminds me of reading Black Hawk Down when the regular marines start seeing the special forces dropping from random shots in the chaos and realizing no matter how trained...
