Welcome to v4 of the Blue Sky Game Dev orientation 🧵! Let's get you started with the basics of Bluesky, finding other devs, and posting about your games! Btw, this is based on the artist orientation thread from @purlane.ink; make sure to check it out if you’re also on the art side of game dev!

Welcome to the Bluesky artist orientation 🧵! This will get you started on the basics of how this network works, how to connect with other artists, and how to get your art seen. If you’re a furry, I also highly recommend checking out @buttplug.engineer's furry orientation thread below:

First things first, you need to write up your intro skeet! Don’t bother making it a reply in any of the intro threads, tho… we’ll get to that in a bit. Include the #GameDev tag to ensure your intro shows up in the game dev feed. 😍

Second… yes. They’re called skeets. Don't blame me, I don’t make the rules. 🤷🏻‍♂️

With your intro skeet done, go check out the 2 main intro threads. Shop around for friends to follow while you’re there, and don’t forget to drop a link to your intro skeet in the replies. ❤️ bsky.app/profile/trez... bsky.app/profile/rami...

Hey, let’s get an intros thread for all of the game devs here! Tell us about yourself, your studio, and/or your current projects! 👾♥️

Next, let’s talk about custom feeds. They’re a whole big topic all on their own, so I wrote up a separate thread about them. TL;DR - Custom feeds are community-managed timelines that you can subscribe to.

WHAT IS A CUSTOM FEED‽ A lot of people are still confused about it, so I figured a thread might help clarify. On other social platforms, algorithms are governed by the platform owners. On bsky, algorithms are created, owned, and managed by the community (gimme that means of production bebe).

Now... what feeds should you follow to get into the game dev community? I wrote up a thread about that, too!

It's time to update the living list of all the game dev feeds! Bookmark this thread and check back every once in a while to see if any more have been added! 🧵

Great tips. Thanks for sharing. There's also great starter packs to find gamedev folks. We have one for Team Xbox folks here on Bluesky, if you don't mind me sharing. bsky.app/profile/acti...

Here is your Xbox Starter Pack to easily follow Xbox employees, Xbox studios, titles, and staff, and other gaming-adjacent employees at Microsoft. It's still a work in progress, so let me know about others I should add. #Xbox go.bsky.app/UN78mEo

One more thing that's different on Bluesky: Labelers! There's a lot to labelers, but the short version is that I run a positive labeler for the Games Industry here. Go subscribe to @ozone.birb.house and check out this thread for more info on getting your own labels!

I've created a labeler for the game dev industry here on Bluesky, but first, it's time for a bit of tutorialisation... WTF is a labeler‽ 🧵
