At the risk of starting the flame war to end all flame wars... Modern LLMs (GPT-5.1, Claude 4.5, Gemini 3) produce excellent code and can be a significant productivity boost to software engineers who take the time to learn how to effectively apply them - especially if used with coding agent tools

I wouldn't argue with that, but it supposes that the main issue with software development is the speed of production of code, and it is certainly not. Nothing I have seen has convinced me that no silver bullet is not still valid. We are still not reducing any of the essential complexity.

Say more. I'd posit that we're becoming increasingly more avoidant in our belief that this tech will sort of "figure itself out". And in this way we're not developing tolerance, but more acceptance. Greater (essential) complexity is a lot of hard work; sitting in the discomfort of unknowing.

that could all be right. I meant tolerance in a broad enough sense to include avoidance. I don’t think we can know yet whether we’re making a complexity bomb for our future selves. I tend to doubt it (LLMs are also great for building meta-tools for managing our tools) but I am an optimist
