Anyone who thinks the NYC subways are scary does not ride the NYC subways. Or perhaps hasn't since the 1980s (and even then it wasn't as bad as people claimed).

I cannot emphasize enough that the New York City subway is not scary. It’s one of my favorite parts of living here. I grew up in the suburbs having to drive on highways everywhere and that’s way scarier

I’ve ridden the subway alone at 3am and have never had something bad happen *to me* (one time my train hit someone*, but that obviously was a much bigger problem for them than for me) *they drunkenly decided to sit on the platform with their legs hanging over the edge.
