This is the baseline now. Other suggestions - at least 13 (if not more) justices, but only 9 sit on any case and they rotate (like in the circuit courts), which makes it harder to game out which justices might hear any case - geographic diversity. at least 1 justice elevated *from* each circuit

Expanding the Court is the moderate position

...We can see how this helps *a little* with Gorsuch - being a western states judge leads him to some unexpected positions, despite his general right-wingedness. - flexible court size - each president simply gets two appointments per term, but no replacements on death/retirement.

...this would reduce the gamesmanship around retirements, and also let really old people retire regardless of who is president so that they're not literally dying on the bench. Those are just some ideas percolating around that I think can all work together in some fashion.

...Anyway, to the extent simply "packing the court" would be a race to the bottom (or a 100 person Court), I think these ideas could actually help insulate the court overall from the partisanship we've seen in recent years, and still provide *some* ideological balance.

...and yes, I personally want a court made up entirely of Sotomayors and Jacksons, but I'm trying to think through how this would actually work with the political system we have.
