I can't explain why, but trump really is a special case in terms of being able to get away with saying and doing the most reprehensible shit. Other GOPers who do this have been able to ride his coattails to some degree, but in general it still disgusts people when anyone else does it.

I honestly don't know. As a New Yorker, we've always hated the guy (my stepmom in particular despises him for tearing down the Bonwit Teller building), but he does have a very weird charisma that some people find appealing.

It's really some tribalist thing, psychology of favoritism, etc, the persistent idea he's just been misrepresented. People have been primed to see themselves in him so they'll excuse anything
