I shipped my dog to my parents from Germany when I was reassigned back to The States, then attended a five week course enroute so did not see her for a while. She would have nothing to do with me when I got home and we went to bed still estranged.

In the very early morning she jumped into bed and ravished me. I found she had totally emptied my suitcase and spread it all over the bedroom. Evidently my scent on my clothing was sufficient evidence that I was, indeed, me.

At first I thought he was acting like a cat: "You left me and were gone too long! I'll show you!" Then the dog overtook him and the love came out. Cats do that second part, too, but not quite like dogs. (I am still a cat person, but everyone must love dogs & the joy they express.)

This happened to my son with his dog. He growled and lunged. Marco had been gone all summer, and returned smelling like his European dad. My son started crying, and his tears smelled like BOY! This guy had to get close enough to her face to smell her as he knew her.

That reminds me of the dog whose story I recently saw online because he fought a venomous snake to the dog's death to protect his human, gazing in his human's eyes as he lay dying. Breaks my heart. I wish I hadn't read that story. It hurts my heart just thinking about that poor dog.

I have done dogs a favor & am a cat owner. Unfortunately, my health precludes me giving dogs the care they need & deserve. I can't walk them & pick up their shit, but I can clean a cat box. Dogs (and cats - all pets, actually) deserve owners who can commit to them & respond to their every need.
