Is there a reason why lethal injections aren't just a buttload of morphine, other than that our bloodthirsty "law & order" politicians wouldn't want the condemned to enjoy themselves too much on the way to oblivion?

There's a lot of politicking behind what drugs are available. Some manufacturers will refuse to sell their drugs for the purpose of murder. Pentobarbital has been easier to get... even though it has an >7% rate of botched executions. It's inhumane regardless.
