I was surprised to discover that nobody at the annual Halloween triple feature media potluck was familiar with The Guest, as it's a little more mainstream than my usual contributions. (Terrorvision, Society, Spookies, etc.)

I saw some interesting arcade discourse about asset tourism vs 1 credit clears... except that it was about classic beat 'em ups. I'm firmly in the tourist camp for that genre, with the big exception of Alien vs Predator. 1CCs are impressive, but I'd rather spam continues than off screen jump kicks.

An interesting side effect of "assholes" being elevated to social dominance in the Trump era is a flattening of the asshole subtypes. Mr White used to be a unique and interesting asshole variant, but now he's just a Trump Guy. Many such cases.

I just saw the "life-changing amount of money discourse" and my big takeaway is that economics is like medicine in that the messiness of human experience makes everything hard to quantify, except economists aren't allowed to test things because giving people $30k would be communism.

question for the audience: if you were ultra rich (let’s say $25M), what completely frivolous thing are you buying?

Braved the construction traffic to check out the Vinegar Syndrome Dinkytown soft launch. Luckily, I was illegally parked so I couldn't stick around and put myself into debt.

Sony is considering releasing all 4 ‘BEATLES’ biopics on the same day in April 2028. Another idea being considered is offering a 4-pack of tickets to encourage fans to buy tickets to all 4 films at once. (Source: www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie...)

Finally watched Hokum, which was pretty great. My only nitpick is some plot based inconsistencies about the difficulty of drawing a chalk circle while under pressure.

The thing about avoiding GenAI in video games is that I could easily survive on my current backlog alone until the stock market implodes in 203X. Plus there are a bunch of guys who are going to dip out of buying new stuff for years after GTA6 drops.

I'm a little jealous of everyone with goofy stuff on their page. Mine is almost entirely just a weirdly phrased list of things I have purchased. How much money and compute have they dumped into this system that uses my video equipment purchases to determine that I am interested in video production?

Amazon users are discovering a bizarre "About You" page that reveals what the company thinks it knows about them One woman found Amazon had determined she "has flat buttocks"

Stray Control Resonant thoughts: It's a fun inversion of open world secret hunting to have tons of rooftop traversal abilities while a majority of the secrets are found at street level. There is an entire category of sidequest that barely 10% of players have even discovered, based on trophy data.

Is there a reason why lethal injections aren't just a buttload of morphine, other than that our bloodthirsty "law & order" politicians wouldn't want the condemned to enjoy themselves too much on the way to oblivion?

I hate to be a scold, but I really wish we could move beyond calling people ugly for political reasons. The fact that Michael Tracey looks like an R Crumb drawing of a greasy pervert is literally the least objectionable thing about him.

Tension between the "I hate welfare because it helps minorities" faction and the "I hate minorities because they use welfare" faction.

Experiencing a middle school flex learning day as a parent for the first time and... WTF!? Kiddo has been going for more than six hours cumulatively, and every class has a different system for turning in the work.

I feel like I'm missing something with the Control Resonant combat tuning, because the game is largely quite easy so far, with the extreme outlier exception of side missions where you have to defend a stationary object against enemy waves.

Hey everybody, you have to sanitize your YouTube links before posting them now, or disable the new channel visibility feature. Don't make me become a new kind of social media scold.

The pop country people being enraged that nobody cares about their capture of a cultural institution with fading relevance seems like a metaphor for American conservatism in general.

It's so easy to not notice the #1 song these days. I was listening to After Hours in 2020 and my wife assumed The Weeknd was some indie artist only I knew about.

I'm always talking about how I want an American Izo (the anti-war Takashi Miike film about a historical samurai who fights everybody across time in an oneiric purgatory) and I'm sad to say that the closest we have appears to be Resident Evil Retribution.

It could use a folk song interlude and a stronger POV, but structurally it's mostly there since they finally gave up on the plots making any sense at all.

Control Resonant isn't blowing me away yet, but there was a side mission with a moral choice where the "good" option (that is also more in character for the protagonist) may have locked me out of some content, which is a really good way of doing video game moral choices.

It really seems like the goal of AI is to foist the negative externalities of being super rich upon the population at large.
