Why wouldn't this exact same logic have applied to Hitler? I mean, some of his supporters had puppies and were kind to their grandmas. If you can't call anything fascist unless/until *literally everyone supporting it is a comic book villain*, then you just can't ever identify fascism.

Exactly. And did not the soldier who slaughtered a family also smile with joy at his own child's birthday? Did not the teenager who shoved the dead into unmarked graves also laugh with delight at his brother's new job? Ad infinitum. What does evil look like if not the mirror?

he's talking about keeping the tent flaps open and you're hearing him saying being less offensive to all = condoning bad behavior. If he says "x bad behavior is OK," call him out on THAT. If he's just saying calling people names doesn't make them behave better, he's 100% correct. b/c brain science

Very true! Among other salient differences. Eg, far more informed opposition to Trump/Republicans today than to Hitler in the 30’s; and also the degree of violence today pales in comparison to even earliest Nazis (though, catching up fast now).

My wife remembers her grandfather very fondly. He was an actual literal decorated wehrmacht soldier. He fought and killed and nearly died for fascism. The point of Hanna Arendt, if anyone bothered to read her anymore, is that facism LOOKS NORMAL right up until it's murdering you.

Fetterman is a narcissist who thrives on getting attention, but not everyone who voted for him is a narcissist who thrives on getting attention. See how easy that was?

Weird conflation of people who did vote for Trump in the past and those that continue to vote for Republicans- I think you can pretty clearly draw a line and offer some grace to people who have had buyer’s remorse (we are going to need their votes) & those still cheering on what’s happening now
