Another obvious argument against endorsing or allowing AI is that it's an industry which actively prices your own user base out of VR-capable hardware and works towards making private ownership of it a thing of the past... I mean...

GenAI is incredibly isolating technology, that injects itself between people and the surrounding world - learning skills, networking, accessing information - and gatekeeps those skills from the user. Endorsing that at all seems counter to everything VRChat should stand for.

The very concept of learning is itself a skill - one that AI is very happy to replace in users. Once you're no longer used to approaching a subject with a desire to learn (because you don't need to), that skill atrophies like unused muscle and you are reliant on the LLM to do things. Forever.

"It empowers users" - yea, very briefly the first time they use it and feel the relief of not having to do all the thinking themselves. Eventually you need it just to reach your baseline capability. The crutch grows to become part of your body and without it you flounder.

This is still hopeful. We really have a chance to make a community for the better, improve on it, and be an inspiring difference for *real* creators both current and new. At least.... that's the hope, anyways.

You are using a methodology here that accounts for things like click farms being used to misrepresent sentiment, right? Because click farms that pump a nearly empty slop world with 12000 favorites in 3 hours are also completely capable of sabotaging a survey…

i certainly won't log in with google, so here's my short take: ai generated worlds and assets? pure trash. there's no value, no love, nothing. i don't want to see that shit. ai tools that only the creator uses like you showed? sucks too, but to each their own, may they fry their brains.

I only worry that this data will be used less to ensure VRC becomes the best platform it can be, but will instead be used to see juuuuust how close to the sun they can fly before getting burned

It's either this, or we find out those against AI trash are really the minority and we get shoved aside. But I think much of this is a problem really because of how hard VRC advertises "creativity" that's made by real people. Community and AI trash cannot go hand in hand.

We'll see how much the JP crowd nudges it over into embracing AI slop entirely. There was at least one reddit thread filled with people clamoring to announce how much they either didn't care or how much they'd actively avoid 'western creators' because of how they hate AI. Shits weird.

Most unfortunate, really. It's wild how much of a divide there is, even if objectively it's still the same disgrace of creativity.

To clarify: This is absolutely the least charitable interpretation of VRC’s motivations for collecting feedback, and isn’t what I believe to be the most likely explanation. In all likelihood, they really are just wanting people’s thoughts. But I don’t trust like that…
