Long story, but I obtained a Sega Master System! I never really played one back in the day or had any close friends who owned one. I grew up playing the NES. It came with 14 games, but curious what everyone thinks are the "must play" titles for the system? Looking forward to exploring the platform!

Golden axe warrior - straight up Zelda 1 clone, but I think a little better. Ys - a must have for the system in isolation, but better versions exist elsewhere. Phantasy star - jrpg, notable for its 3d dungeons and Sci fi setting.

Jurassic Park, Land of Illusion, Phantasy Star, Sonic 1 and 2, Master of Darkness, Power Strike 2, Golden Axe Warrior, Golvellius, Asterix, Batman Returns, Dragon Crystal, Deep Duck Trouble, Alex Kidd in Miracle world, Alex Kidd in Shinobi Land, Shinobi, Columns.

The only “must play” IMO is Alex Kidd. There really aren’t many more exclusives that are noteworthy since there’s so much overlap with other systems. Maybe also Mickey’s land of illusion. Nothing else I can think of off the top of my head.

If you're into old school RPGs Phantasy Star is a pretty good one for the time. Otherwise I think folk have you covered with their suggestions. Golden Axe: Warriors is pretty good but it's also... pricy.

Ultima IV (for some people it’s even better than the DOS version) Wonder Boy in Monster Land Wonder Boy III: The Dragon’s Trap Wonder Boy in Monster World (this one is probably better on Megadrive, if you have one)
