Troy Jackson, the Democratic nominee for Senate in Maine, said that it is “unfortunate” that Jewish Mainers don’t call the war in Gaza a “genocide.” He later apologized, saying that the word genocide “carries particular weight” given the Holocaust.

Seeing a lot of panic from dems as it's becoming more and more clear an issue many dems have been cheering, and using as a platform to win primary elections, is actually a call for Jews to be stripped of nationhood and be demoted to pilgrim/vasal/dhimmi status as a people

Is that even true? 'Jews' can be more sensitive to the reality of the open slaughter that continues to happen via Israel. American evangelicals seem to have a reluctance to criticize Israeli behavior. Should that be specifically noted?

He was right the first time. While it isn't for anyone to decide what words others should use, it is an established fact that Gaza is not a 'war' but a massacre of civilians, a genocide, as confirmed by multiple independent human rights organizations and the UN.

If you wanna be super duper technical the UN hasn't called it genocide yet (independent UN bodies have though) so it's down to how technical you wanna be. My stance is that they are comitting genocide. No, I'm not Antisemetic and I do strongly condemn it on the Left and Right.

In 1948 Israel was established from other countries . Whether planned or not, the country turned into a “theocratic “ democracy The people have formally tried a few times over the years to live together Sadly,it hasn’t worked out yet What’s next?

So call it an eradication of the Palestinians. The Biden administration attempted to convince Israel not to turn Gaza into a parking lot. But not surprisingly they didn't listen. Israel now faces the implications of their actions and should. Trump has added to the destabilization of the region.

The distinction matters. People can strongly disagree over whether the term “genocide” applies, but telling Jewish Mainers that they should use that label is a different issue. His later apology at least acknowledges why the wording was insensitive.

What are you even talking about? The Holocaust was a genocide and what Israel has done in Gaza is a genocide. What the hell else would you call it? The Netanyahu govt killed 70,000 Palestinians. That's just a fact. Get over the semantics. Should it be called mass murder? Massacre? What's the diff?

Pro Tip: If you're running in Maine, Michigan, or any other competitive state, you need every vote. Before you open your gob, ask, "What would Dolly do?" Just say,"War sucks for everyone, and I'll do everything I can to end this one." It's not hard.

It's very hard, there are minefields everywhere. Dolly was silent on political issues to her maintain popularity/profitability. But for a major political candidate to not sit down with his comms folks and iron out his words on all the obvious hot-button issues is inexcusable.

It's only hard if they take the position they have to take a side or render a judgement. Dolly chose to see everyone as having a different view, and she saw her role as uniting them with compassion and forgiveness. Every politician we have should follow her example.

Jackson is doing his best to lose the race against Collins. He’s gonna lose all the progressives. I am a Jewish American. You don’t have to apologize ro me for calling what the evil despicable Israelis are doing in Gaza and the West Bank genocide. It is.
