You can often get a better result using this trick with oklch() by @khamer.bsky.social which approximates APCA random-stuff.jakearchibald.com/color-contra...
For folks reading into this thread, understand that APCA is not part of any W3C spec, draft or otherwise: adrianroselli.com/2026/04/wcag... You can still use APCA (whichever APCA version), but the colors you choose may not satisfy WCAG. Be sure to also check them against WCAG.
Looks like mixed signals at first sight, but the basic version in Level 5, which takes a single <color> as its argument, is indeed ready to implement. drafts.csswg.org/css-2026/#ro... drafts.csswg.org/css-color-5/...
I don't see that warning on drafts.csswg.org/css-color-5/.... Maybe a caching issue?
I see the warning on level 6, which looks more like the text in your screenshot drafts.csswg.org/css-color-6/...
Yes, my screenshot was of Level 6, which is where I landed from my usual entry point drafts.csswg.org/indexes/#fun... – and where I got confused for a second. I actually wanted to diffuse that confusion by sharing it, not spread it. Sorry about that.
