I think he’d be viewed a lot more favorably if he didn’t kick off his career with the worst team in MLB history

I think being the guy asked to fill in for Benetti after Sox fans got blindsided by that move was always going to keep him in a bad light, even if his performance wasn't especially bad.

Yeah, and it isn't even just the association with that year. That had to have hurt his growth. What was there to talk about?
