It is far more critical to get chargers at apartments and places of work. These superchargers will have a small niche, but we need regular chargers everywhere.

I LOVE my electric car! My problem is, I can't go on road trips. I save hundreds of dollars on gas, but I want to travel the states. The fast charging stations are few & only in big cities. I would LOVE to go on a cross country trip, but not feasible. Oil moguls still have the grip on the GOP

Why do we question each new innovation with “yea, but can it replace every single thing that preceded it yet???”

Just charge at home in your driveway overnight like you charge your phone. Fast chargers only really matter on the interstates. We don't need to replace every gas station 1:1. That's a lot of real estate we could put to other uses.

I have to charge at work in the winter to make it home and would love to see more offices offer charging. Mine does not. Luckily the local city does in its public parking garages and only charges for the parking, but it’s a lot of running in and out of work and waiting for available chargers.

Iceland enters the chat. Their country is drowning in electricity generated from geo-thermal sources. Gas there is over $5 a gallon and every single driver we met or had while there was either driving an EV or talking about when they were getting one. The oil industry is the problem, not EVs

How useful? Are you nuts? It makes long distance travel by EV practical. But there are still questions as to whether it is real. Putting that much charge in a battery that size, that quickly, has a lot of challenges. That it can be done, repeatedly, without destroying the battery remains to be seen.

you cannot refuel your gas car in your sleep or while you're at work. the charging speed factor is not the same, charging station availability is much more important. super fast phone charging for example became a nice feature, not a game changer.

This. I have a PHEV not EV. Max charge speed is lvl 2 speeds. But if we had more chargers that wouldn’t matter. Even at that pathetically slow speed if I could be plugged in the entire grocery store trip I gain 2-4 miles. If most parking had chargers most drivers would need only 75 miles range.

I drive an electric school bus. We must remember that this industry is in its infancy. Even so, we are seeing great leaps and bounds in the form of long lasting and long range solid state batteries, new anodes, and in the motors . Plus , they are amazing to drive!

I don't know if this particular tech is it (I keep hearing of "solid state" batteries being the future), but safe fast-charging battery tech and the requisite charging infrastructure is exactly what it will really take to make EVs a widespread replacement for gas-powered vehicles.

Range anxiety was a real issue for early gas-powered vehicles, but this problem will be solved much more quickly: wherever there is power, one of these can be affordably installed by a private citizen's co-op. This is a fixable problem, not a legitimate problem.

I was with the author of the article till he started saying ppl who own ev vehicles don't really need these fast ev chargers because they like the long time it takes to charge them. That's just ridiculous! It's like saying ppl don't really need to put gas in their car as they can fill it up at home

Except nobody has a supply of gasoline in their home. EVERYBODY has electricity, sleeps for a few hours a day, and if you have car buying money, you can sure as heck shell out for a cheap wallbox charger and installation. Do you take your phone to a "phone charging station"?

not if you're renting an apartment you can't. it's at the whim of the landlord and if you have no assigned parking or carports that have no facilities for electricity it's infeasible to wire every spot up with a charger
