This thread is something I have worried about around separate things like VR and Utility and the crowd pacification problem for some time. AI just makes it more obvious.

Zach Weinersmith@zachweinersmith.bsky.social

So, the newest video generation AI from Google makes stuff that I can't tell from reality. Separate from the obvious freakiness here, something that interests me is how much of the potential badness of this is, in fact, already here. For example, suppose you go to TikTok.

Since SCOTUS destroyed the Voting Rights Act, Southern states can now redraw a dozen majority-Black districts in time for the 2028 elections, triggering the largest drop in Black congressional representation since the end of Reconstruction. And that’s just the beginning.

1. Not sure when a new, on-the-record rape allegation against a sitting president isn’t considered news — especially considering Trump was found liable by a jury in a similar case — but it was ignored by most mainstream media outlets

The boys that Jane Doe 1 reported never seemed to miss class for any disciplinary reason, she said, and the boy who allegedly first shared the photos had his record expunged by Utah Courts. “No one wants to come forward because not a goddamn thing happens,” Jane Doe 1’s mom said.

sltrib.comIn a Utah high school, boys shared nude and fake photos of them, young women say. They allege the school did little to stop it.A lawsuit filed this week alleges the school’s principal at one point told a girl and her parents they shouldn’t “ruin these boys’ lives.”

The bare minimum American needs to do in order to show they want to be part of the world again, is to bring Elon and Trump to justice for crimes against humanity.

Elon Musk spreads disinformation about Ukraine after being exposed for sabotaging military operations by the WSJ. The US tax funded billionaire, Trump's largest donor, (backed by Israel and Russia); tied to the deaths of thousands of children due to USAid cuts, blames Ukraine for not surrendering.

When Dems retake control of Congress arrest him and hold him incommunicado pending charges for high treason, war crimes and crimes against humanity. He must be made an example of. To show the world that his seditious arrogance and subversive criminality will not be tolerated.

Fun fact: a great way to fight fascism is to treat all people as if they are indeed people. In the case of trans rights, a great way to do that is to realize that trans rights are just rights. If you are going to protect them for anyone, you protect them for everyone. It’s not fucking hard.

Jessie Gender@jessiegender.bsky.social

As someone is part of that 2%, fuck that. I want people to defend my rights, not throw me under the bus in their supposed “fight against fascism” ie “fight to uphold the increasingly regressive system that enforced a narrowing idea of normalcy.”

Feels like every day we are hearing bad news about the humanities, but this stat is pretty shocking. Graduate research production has roughly declined by half in 10 years.

Humanities dissertations have fallen by 49 percent since 2015, compared with a drop of 4.5 percent in the social sciences, according to a new analysis of nearly 445,000 dissertations in these two fields over 65 years. Explore the data: https://chroni.cl/4yxUZ4S

That Vivek Ramaswamy ad might end up being the worst own goal we've seen in a major race. Platforming the estranged mother of your opponent to attack her, only for everyone to discover that the mother protected the rapist of her 12-year-old daughter and stayed married to him, is beyond despicable.

So if we tax billionaires we will get less of them?!? That’s the point, assholes.

Most billionaire wealth isn't in yachts or jewelry — that's just a few percent of it. Most is productive business capital: companies that employ people, build things, and fund research. Tax that wealth and you're taxing the businesses that employ us all. Cato's Adam Michel explains.
