NEW: Donald Trump announced the US was imposing reciprocal tariffs on a small collection of Antarctic islands that are not inhabited by humans, as part of a global trade war aimed at asserting US dominance. The Heard and McDonald Islands are known for their populations of penguins.

wired.comTrump Tariffs Hit Antarctic Islands Inhabited by Zero Humans and Many PenguinsThe Heard and McDonald Islands are among the dozens of targets of President Donald Trump's latest round of tariffs. But they have no exports, because no one lives there.

Arctic islands aren't getting enough of this attention. Does no-one think of the puffins too

As Jan Mayen is now subject to 10% #tariffs from the USA, here's some images from the island, from when we popped in there in 2002. "Popped in" means helicoptered off an icebreaker for a few hours. The idea that Jan Mayen imposes #tariffs on the US - just wow.

Yes, the penguins are getting ALL the attention. Puffins are the perfect Protestants - mate for life, have one offspring at a time. Good parents getting the babies to fly. What good do tariffs do for those exemplars of propriety?

🐧🀬 Watch out for those powerful wings...they don't create flight, but they create strength to beat the crap out of the dumbass who imposed tariffs on their island, which does not export anything!!
