The Rubio speech is incoherent and hypocritical. He denounces Soviet communism, the threat and division it sowed in Europe, yet has absolutely nothing to say about Ru's current attempt to restore restore the Soviet empire by re-invading and re-subordinating swaths of Europe. What's worse,...

When I worked in WaPo Opinions in 2017-2018, senior editors specifically told junior editors not to factcheck Marc Thiessen and other MAGA columnists, otherwise they wouldn’t be able to publish anything by them at all, and “we need them for intellectual diversity.”

Remember: There is nothing natural or inevitable about extreme inequality; it’s the result of an economic system that values wealth and power over human dignity and justice. It doesn't have to be this way.

Police who keep their identities secret are, quite literally, secret police. I don’t know why this is even controversial. You don’t get to yank people off the streets while hiding your face and identity and still retain the respectability of an accountable, democratic police force.

Brad Lander@bradlander.bsky.social

“Secret police” are your words, not mine. Seems like you’ve been giving them a lot of thought. Unlike NYPD, your agents don’t identify themselves & wear masks that cover their faces. Now they ignore judges’ rulings, too. What law enforcement agents are supposed to uphold … is the rule of law.

A recurring conversion among my friends is the horrifying collapse of U.S. based journalism’s willingness to explain and defend against the rise of autocracy here. Mike Brock perfectly explains why I’ve turned off the auto-renewal of my NYT subscription. I will not fund enablers of lawlessness.

“When federal agents are explicitly encouraged to arrest people to meet numerical targets, when constitutional protections become negotiable—we have moved decisively beyond the realm of policy disagreement into territory that has a specific historical designation.” open.substack.com/pub/mikebroc...

Hey @dodai.bsky.social, maybe try just reporting on actual news instead of manufacturing it. I didn’t believe I was paying a premium subscription to The….National Enquirer. JFC 🤡 🎪

Instead they do a whole follow-up story continuing to say "race" instead of "ethnicity" and letting his political opponents take wild and fully speculative shots at him www.nytimes.com/2025/07/04/n...

Hands down the smartest media platform today. In an era when opportunists of all stripes cave and compromise, thank you for standing tall and shining the light. Your fearless journalism is surely a path of of this mess.

“While Last said many Bulwark readers are largely on the center left to the center right, he added that the main common thread among his reader base is a distaste for authoritarianism. To Last, that's synonymous with an unease, or outright disgust, with Trump and many of his policies.”

Yes, they do now know his name.

James: His critics said that he should wait his turn. His critics said that he did not have the experience. His critics said they did not have the right name. Well, now all of them know his god damn name.

I’m inspired by the words of @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social, the winner of last night’s mayoral primary election in New York City. Our system may be under attack by Big Money and demagogues, but let his victory serve as a reminder that power belongs to the people.

Based on crowd-sourced records of No Kings Day event turnout, and extrapolating for the cities where we don't have data yet, it looks like roughly 4-6 million people protested Trump across the U.S. yesterday. That's nearly 2% of the U.S. pop! Mobilized anti-Trump resistance is exceeding 2017 levels

If I negotiated with my better half the way the President negotiates with other countries, I would be single, lonely, and eating only the crappy meals that are in my repertoire.

For those who tire of the interminable debates about whether Dems should tack to the center or to the left, @repcasar.bsky.social consistently models how progressives can advocate for kitchen table issues and neuter culture war distractions. He doesn’t write ‘strongly worded letters’; he calls BS.

Congressman Greg Casar@repcasar.bsky.social

This morning we learned more than 5 million Americans could lose their health care because of GOP cuts to Medicaid. So what are the Republicans on the DOGE committee calling an emergency hearing about? Trans athletes in semi-pro fencing. What the hell are we doing here? youtu.be/79K0E_DhUoc
