Thirty years ago, a peace-loving Austrian theologian spoke to Peter Thiel about the apocalyptic theories of Carl Schmitt, the German legal theorist tapped by the Nazi's to justify Germany's slip from democracy to dictatorship. Those theories have been a roadmap for the billionaire ever since.

Wired is great, but if I was still a journalist would be a service to readers to not just quote evil/amoral people debating bad ideas, but get a take from an actual Bible scholar like James Tabor who could explain the history of apocalyptic cults and the actual meaning of the Biblical texts.

I could take from this that end times interpretations of the Bible are legitimate and these guys are within some sort of mainstream debate. But this is not only scary and dangerous but relies on a violent misreading of the texts they claim to venerate.

No more interested in an examination of biblical texts anymore than an examination of Grimms Fairy tales which are works of fiction. Unlike Grimm's Fairy tales people are willing to destroy civilization based on their take on complete nonsense which should've been in the dustbin of history long ago

Which is why it would be journalistically responsible to get input from experts who would explain why these texts were written (they were messages to people about their own time, not prophesying about our time). To debunk what Theil is saying intellectually.

I don't think at this point evangelical, pentecostal or other Christian branches can be reached by any academic interpretation. I have read many of Bart Ehrman's books, which after reading donated to my local rural library (anonymously). No one bought them since he is is a known agnostic.

If one is the only person in the room and there must "always be an enemy" then the enemy is oneself. If the Antichrist is the Unifier, then I want Oneself Unified and not Oneself to be their own enemy, fore I teach that there are no outward enemies. Only ourselves.

We can't have peace and prosperity because that will summon the antichrist. The only way to not is to allow Peter Thiel to rule over the world. Who is he even talking to?

As a theorist, Schmitt is remembered for two things: his incisive Weimar-era critique of liberalism and his decision to join the Nazi party in the run-up to the Second World War. In 1996, theologian Wolfgang Palaver introduced Thiel to these ideas at a conference. www.wired.com/story/the-re...

Also, some terms we gotta break down before we carry on: Mimetic Rivalry: Violence that results from humans’ fundamental tendency to imitate each other—specifically to mimic each other’s desires. A key concept for Rene Girard, Thiel’s biggest intellectual influence.

Scapegoat Mechanism: The process by which humans find unity—and relief from mimetic rivalry—in ganging up on one target who gets blamed for all the community’s problems. According to Girard, scapegoating has provided less and less cohesion since the time of Christ. Now, let's carry on with Thiel:

“The high points of politics,” Thiel quotes Schmitt as saying, “are the moments in which the enemy is, in concrete clarity, recognized as the enemy.” In Thiel’s mind, Osama bin Laden was capable of this kind of politics. The West, with its fetish for individual rights and procedures, was not.

Thiel's weird views shouldn't matter at all, except that chronic undertaxation has allowed him and other billionaires to extract more wealth (and therefore power) from America's economy than should ever have been allowed.

This is so disturbing. While the rest of us just want better healthcare and the ability to save for retirement, here is Peter Thiel, a delusional narcissist so wealthy that he's utterly bored with life and now spends his time philosophizing about his role in preventing or causing the apocalypse.

And the rest of the billionaires are certain that everyone on the planet is equally as bored & miserable as they are…so we all must actively want to achieve singularity. So absolutely fucking removed from the wants and desires of normal/real people; they are terrifying.

All Peter Theil needs to do to see something demonic is to look in the mirror. He's a self-hating gay man & white-supremacist who wants to destroy civil rights & run the US as a TechBro White Monarchy. And (2?) his lover(s) *committed*suicide* (he was cheating on his poor husband)

We're talking about something here that goes leagues past mere dictatorship. Gaza is the REAL training ground. That's why dt (phone wants caps)put a Vangelical in charge of the "humanitarian" effort
