Every conversation about bike lanes is like: "Car crashes kill a huge number of people every day, including pedestrians, cyclists, & car occupants. Good bike infrastructure has been shown to make everyone safer (& doesn't increase congestion)." "But sometimes cyclists break rules & hit people!"

Anecdotally, I see a lot of cyclists deciding whether they are cars or pedestrians or fully-above-the-law depending on the convenience of the situation. Like shooting diagonally across an intersection, last second, because they can.

Anecdotally I have been almost run over by cars driving against the lights and through intersections which I, as a pedestrian, am allowed to cross. It is like these drivers of cars and trucks think they are fully above the law! Maybe we should ban cars until we figure this out.

but that’s a 100% logical response to a system that alternately requires you to be a car or a pedestrian, based on whichever is more convenient to other people, and often at the risk of your own safety.

intersections are the scariest part of cycling in the road, getting a head start on traffic and not having to start moving alongside them when the light turns is a huge moment of risk mitigation. people will break rules when it has a good chance of preventing injury or death.
