It looks like a freezing cold rainy day with a collection of blues enthusiasts just loving it. I don't think Rosetta and her entourage had ever experienced such a freezing cold that is brought by Mancunian winter rain. Is there anyone reading this who was there? WHAT a privilege that must have been.

and in 1957 she appeared on the Ed Sullivan show, the man didn’t care if southern stations refused to air his show, saw her appearance when metv once aired his show

Damn she was Little Richard's piano on the guitar with a bit of Chuck Berry mixed and some of Muddy Waters. Why have I never heard of her? She was awesome! Thanks for sharing!

She only received $500 and was buried in a pauper's grave. I'm not sure Elvis ever acknowledged her contribution to his fame and wealth.

Early Delta blues guitarists heavily influenced her finger-picking style before she eventually transitioned to the electric guitar. SRT spent nearly 20 years mastering acoustic and electronic instruments. She adopted the finger-picking, Delta blues w/ gospel to build a percussive signature

Playing on a cold and rainy disused railway platform in Manchester England, on 7 May 1964. The performance featured her explosive rendition of “Didn’t It Rain” and has become legendary, with an audience that included Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Keith Richards, and Brian Jones.

According to the most recent film, the ladies were quite taken with Elvis's wanger flacking around in his trousers. So he had that going for him.

Chuck Berry often gets credited as the architect of rock and roll and while he deserves every bit of it Sister Rosetta was the inventor of it. Lets just call them the Godmother and the Godfather.

I remain stunned that Hollywood has not based a biopic on Sister Rosetta. Her one marriage, for the era, rivaled that of Taylor Swift’s..and a wide audience should know about her talent, her struggles and her contributions to popular music

Really? You’re surprised they did not make a movie about a black woman being amazing? Welcome to the lives of women 😉 “they” make sure we know our lives are not worth noting. So make sure whenever they do, whatever they make about any woman, to go see it!

There appears to be some confusion as to whether it was Wilbraham Rd station or Chorlton station. This comes from Chorlton station being on Wilbraham rd and with Wilbraham rd station being on Alexandra Rd south. But you are absolutely correct.

I watched video of the singer named Chuck Berry. It is believe that Elvis Presley copied his style from Chuck Berry. Sister Rosetta Tharpe played two decades before Chuck Berry, and Chuck Berry is quoted as saying that he copied her style.

She’s got that look about her, that when she very calmly and deliberately says my whole name, I know three things: 1) I’ve don’t something very stupid, 2) I’m going to be in a world of trouble, 3) The only word coming out of my mouth better be “yes ma’am”, “no ma’am”, and “sorry ma’am”

So if I stole someone's music and re-recorded it without paying them anything or at the very least asking their permission to do so... I can just say the person I stole the music from "inspired" me and that makes it ok?

Sister Rosetta Tharpe’s most iconic and recognizable guitar is a 1961 Gibson Les Paul SG Custom in a white finish, featuring three pickups and gold hardware
