Replying to @rafiews.com
After the first round elections, Congressman André Janones created a WhatsApp channel titled “Lula’s Army.” It ballooned to 10 million people following his commands on how to behave online to counteract Meta’s far-right-favouring algorithms. The right knows how to use socials. We must learn, too.

Anything by my high school English teacher, Mark Halliday. Here’s one, “A Kind of Reply”— www.poetryfoundation.org/poetrymagazi...
Alright just a nerdy English teacher question for you nerds here: what are people’s favorite “ars poetica” poems? Going to teach that lesson tomorrow, need some poems

All admin should be on the teaching schedule as co-teaching a class and therefore at least on the hook for policies in their school, even if they generally do not show up to teach the class.
All educators should have to be a student for a full day once a year—for their entire career. A day in their seats.

I have flipped this and placed the revision cycle in the prewriting and planning stage — maximizing the quality of a draft before / as it is written. Graded power return time in class becomes all-affirmation and positive motivation.
Learning from this week: really cool things happen when you build a revision cycle into your summative that gives you a chance to talk 1-on-1 with students who struggled. Never. Going. Back.
So…Yale should be limited to 35% white, given New Haven’s demographics: Race and Ethnicity • Hispanic or Latino: 31.0% • White (Non-Hispanic): 29.0% – 35.1% • Black or African American: 29.5% • Asian: 5.3% • Two or More Races / Other: ~10% Is that what we are saying?
The plain fact of it is thus: the Trump administration wants to re-segregate higher education. It is a racist project straight-up-no-chaser. Accommodating any of this puts you on the wrong side of history, makes you a collaborator in this project. ballsandstrikes.org/law-politics...
Good morning. Good stuff in Benjamin’s share here but it misses the elephant in the room - corporate capture - and generally seems to imagine that this is all just politics, rhetoric, region, and discourse.
Good morning all. Might I interest you in a long comment on my Substack left by someone named James that in my view accurately and astutely summarizes the evolution of politics surrounding the American education system over the past 20 years? buildcognitiveresonance.substack.com/p/selling-a-...

Thank you for this reporting, the first place I’ve seen Alpha’s homeschooling kitchen-table-school roots discussed. I’m a public ed supporter, but I see the diversity and variety offered by homeschooling as a good thing. A vision of billion students plugged into Alpha’s AI is certainly not that.
My deep dive on the "A.I.-driven" Alpha School, revealing their internal learning and enrollment data for the first time, just as the network expands into public education. There is a big gap between the marketing and reality. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/23/u...

Ironically, as a public school teacher, I am expected to be entirely responsible for the behavior conduct of my class, its engagement, and learning outcomes. A mask requires more focus from students, and I cannot afford to expect that from them, and would get no support for it from admin.
