Coming to understand that gender and sex are two different things.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

If you would like to get a good grasp on what motonormativity is, then I highly recommend this explainer talk by Dr Ian Walker, the guy who invented the term.

Idealistic Planter Boxes@axleryde.bsky.social

We were fortunate to have Prof @ianwalker.bsky.social visit Wellington recently to share his knowledge on #motonormativity and #carDependency with us. m.youtube.com/watch?v=5yQ7...

Between 2021 and 2025, around 2 million cyclists passed the floating bus stops on Leith Street, Edinburgh, and around 5 million bus passengers boarded or alighted here. No injuries have been recorded. Over the same period, drivers injured around 600 Edinburgh pedestrians, killing 16.

I've been hesitant to say anything, as I didn't want to add to the pile on, but I do think the wording of the 'Zionism is Racism' position could have been better. Yes, it's racist, but the actual problem is that it's colonialist. 'Zionism is Violent Racist Colonialism.' The racism being a key part.

This is an important distinction because we need to focus attention on what matters. The violent land theft. I have heard it said we should 'just support what the Palestinians want'. Well, we know what they want. They want their land back. That should be what we state support for.

And please don't respond with anything about Green Party 'procedure'. I do not care. Focussing on such is one reason why many members disengage from the party's democratic process. The reforms being called for should not change the democratic part, but change the access part and way it's put forward

Wonderful series of images showing the natural intimacy and affections males once showed one another before the pathologisation of homosexuality after WWII. I really hope men can get back to being this relaxed in each others company. There are signs of it happening with the younger gen.

We can't know if the men were gay or not. But what we do know is that they would not have thought their poses had anything at all to do with that question. What you see in the photos was common, not rare; the photos are not about sexuality, but intimacy. www.artofmanliness.com/social/frien...

Green Party members in Brighton voted to adopt a motion declaring Zionism a form of racism and calling for Palestinian liberation and a single democratic state with justice and equality for all. It is the first mainstream UK party to take that position. But in almost all of the coverage that followed, one group has been strikingly absent from the conversation: Palestinians. On this episode on Palestine Deep Dive, we host a roundtable of Palestinians to discuss the ideology that has shaped every part of their lives. One of the key lessons from Dutch cycling history is cities didn't start with protected lanes. They began by making streets safer, calmer and more inviting; with lower speeds, parking restrictions, traffic filters and reduced through-traffic to create an environment in which cycling could flourish.🧵

And, like, I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but the word “existential” has stopped meaning sexy French people smoking in dark corners and turned into a harrowing discussion about whether our children inherit a civilisation or a famine with great conference centres.

And this govt has not lifted a single finger to address this unconscionable situation. It's an indicator of how truly housebroken we are that we allow this.

The Green Party has done the unacceptable - they have called liberal white people 'racists' This is unforgivable and the must be punished with the full weight of civil society It will be interesting to see where this heads - Will there be a new home for actual dem-socs now? It will still take time.

I'm loving all the pearl clutching by the centrists in the Green Party. Hopefully now they will know their place as a minority. The Green Party is the only one with the guts to do the right thing, finally.

Greens for Palestine say their "Zionism is racism" motion has passed at Green conference. This could be a big problem for the party, not least as four of the party's five MPs have spoken out strongly against it, while Zack Polanski has (sort of) endorsed it. Some, not all, Jewish members worried.

The entire boomer generation is Gollum. Everything on this planet is theirs... their precious. Don't even think of taking anything from them. It's theirs.

With Andy Burnham's speech, the left has unequivocally won the argument - on the rhetoric, at least. The substance is rather more complicated. But this government is more susceptible to popular pressure to go in a more progressive direction than Starmerism. Should embolden us!

Where are the mercenary vigilante forces destroying oil-extraction infrastructure, PFAS chemical plants, the plastics producers, the car/plane factories? Life on earth literally and entirely depends on the cessation of these products. They will not do it willingly. We need to be doing it violently.

So I'm in France and Marine Le Pen's conference speech is being broadcast in the hotel lobby on the main channel in full. The western establishment is absolutely determined that we sink into fascism now, and they are bringing all their considerable propaganda arms in to play to make it happen.

The thing is, last time we did this, the fascist actually had an economic plan to address the issues (hence the 'socialism' in their name). They centralised control of key industries and helped pump essential capital back into the hands of people. It played a key role in legitimising their govt.

They still did the demonising of minorities to blame them for the mess, but it was a two pronged strategy. But this time, there's no strategy to address the economic mess, the fact that capitalism is eating itself. So how will they last when they fail to make a tangible difference in people's lives?

The failure of the Assisted Dying bill in the Lords once again reveals the shame that is 'democracy' in the UK. The establishment and the church are assured just enough power to always keep their finger on the scales, no matter what the people want. Media hides this by pretending we have a democracy

Gerrard Winstanley, who died 350 years ago today: “Was the earth made to preserve a few covetous, proud men to live at ease, and for them to bag and barn up the treasures of the earth from others, that these may beg or starve in a fruitful land; or was it made to preserve all her children?”

prisoners v abducted/kidnapped hostages died somehow v killed Hamas-controlled services v 'Israel said...' The occupied are aggressors v the occupiers are victims/defending insurgent massacres v just collateral damage genocide v war

Honestly, if we're having to expend energy on fighting low-hanging fruit like data centres, which should the easiest of red-lines... then we are screwed. Utterly screwed. We ain't winning this.

The Ecologist@theecologist.org

"The audacity to suggest that turning on diesel generators saves lives because data centres take too much power is ludicrous."

The last thylacinus died in captivity on this day 90 yrs ago. Of course, they were hunted to extinction as they were considered a danger to livestock. Though it's now thought they only hunted small prey. Being marsupials they had pouches, both sexes in fact. And could open their mouths really wide.

Now would be a good time for Extinction Rebellion to go down to Dover and block access. Or supporters of Palestine Action. Or both.

Love living in a world where blatant racism is 'legitimate concern', but incoming climate catastrophe and ongoing gen0cide are not. And there are still people pretending like Labour are 'decent people'.
