I keep saying this... both operationally and in research, the situation is still much worse than most people seem to realize or want to accept.

NEW: US weather forecasting is in worse shape than previously known, with 30 NWS forecast offices missing meteorologists-in-charge and about a dozen offices at risk of no longer serving their communities 24/7. www.cnn.com/2025/05/02/w...

This is, of course, by design. When there is obvious need for more services they will farm that out to private companies, who will charge more, provide worse service, and treat their employees like crap. But the wealthy donors who own these companies will be able to buy new yachts.

So much of the hard work, the valuable work done by our government is invisible. With attacks on education and mass disinformation, when we rebuild, our government needs to do a much better job of clearly showing to the general public all that it does and how it actually impacts our daily lives.

Radar cast has become noticeably less reliable in relation to reality in the last two weeks. And that's just for a few showrs passing overhead. I hike and camp and I watch those religiously they were really very accurate for about the last 6 years until now.

I've been trying to pay attention - my kid is supposed to be starting a program in meteorology this fall. I don't know if I should tell them to pick something else, or what. Either no jobs, or only jobs working for Evil, Inc. It's terrifying.

Its an attack on FARMING (et al). Rather, its an attack on everything, because as dull as the weather may be, it is important for everything from transport to farming to day-care planning to... When does the weather NOT factor into your business? When your biz isn't physical (speculation)!!

Yup. The landfall of hurricanes gets all the media coverage, but those things fuck up everything behind landfall, too. If a hurricane hits New Orleans, chances are there will be massive flooding as the storm cell follows the river valleys back up to Minnesota or Pennsylvania, for example.

These are the facts they want to ignore. They suffer from immediate gratification’ for all matters, and react to the problem of the moment. Climate isn’t temporary and damage and solutions are long term. Selfish and immature. Sigh.

it's low-key one of the more terrible things these people have done. many, MANY people are going to die as a result of this crap. michael lewis wrote at length about how important this particular part of the fed is, in many, many unexpected ways.

I'm already noticing the effects in my area...the lack of info as dangerous weather is moving through. I've also noticed that The Weather Channel seems to be stumbling a bit now that they're not working side by side with their NOAA, NWS partners (annecdotal observation).

Statistically it's going to impact the red states much more as will the fema cuts in the aftermath. The insurance companies will be protected from payouts bc they gave a million to trump. Going to be a big hit.

I believe it. I’ve noticed the level of accuracy go down in my mountain village. I can’t even rely on the radar apps anymore. Soon I’m going to have to learn how to read clouds like tea leaves. This is untenable if you are growing food, or don’t want to die from flooding, etc.

Republican SOP: 1. Cripple perfectly functional goverment service 2. Proclaim "See? We told you the government doesn't work!" 3. Hire private contractor for twice the price and half the effectiveness. 4. Repeat.
