republicans: fascists, abducting people off the streets, criminalizing trans people and immigrants nyt: let’s talk about how james talarico ordered one of the most popular breakfast tacos in texas and how that means he’s not fit to lead

NYT story about the supposed “controversy” around Talarico ordering a potato, egg and cheese breakfast taco has an Austin dateline but includes this EXTREMELY convoluted and fake take that a potato, egg and cheese taco is somehow “middle of the road” LIKE TALARICO???

Like literally everywhere down here that does breakfast tacos has potato egg and cheese on the menu! Also lmao at pearl-clutching at having a breakfast taco for lunch. They're a regular on our dinner rotation (I do chorizo, potato, egg, and cheese) because it's fast and the kids love it.

Asking from a place of curiosity, not criticism: I know in America “all politics is retail” etc etc but are there really folks who makes decisions about whether someone deserves civic responsibility based off what they choose to eat? It seems like such an odd angle to judge someone by.
