If one is censured by a nation's Parliament for behaviour officially found to be "corrosive of trust in government", and is referred to an anti-corruption commission for misleading its Cabinet about the "crude and cruel" Robodebt scheme, how is one then eligible for said country's highest honour?

Here we go. I don't have much to say about this one to encourage you to read, and the title will turn many of you away - and maybe it should - but I don't know what I would do with myself if I didn't get this one out:

timinclimate.medium.comI can’t pretend everything will be ok.To love what we have as if it ever mattered to us at all, we must bear witness and grieve. Today I bear witness.
Tim Baxter@timinclimate.naruresearch.com.au

On the upside, I'm writing again. On the downside, I'm writing this:

"The job of political leaders is to lead us, not walk behind us, to bring out the best in us, rather than pander to the worst in us." There are few in our current Parliament who could do this and the ones that could are, unsurprisingly, not found in the ranks of the ALP. #auspol

A hateful thing to say. People whose approach to life is not faith-based have done enormous good, majority non-religious societies have been some of the strongest proponents of human dignity and solidarity. Why is the BBC just printed this unchallenged? If it's "news", it should be balanced.

This is such a poor half-imitation at the misogyny speech. We need a ban on the word mirror. A lot of people found Max Chandler-Mather tactless, but it wasn't "offensive" of him to ask the PM questions in QUESTION TIME, and it's blatantly false to suggest he stood in front of signs like Abbott did.

Look, I'm so happy that Dutton is gone and it's a Labor win rather than the LNP. But, to see Labor win such a majority and people turn their backs on the Greens and others pushing for *genuine* progress for social and environmental justice makes me very sad. Labor are neoliberal light. #AusVotes25

That means you @albomp.bsky.social This election result was an outright repudiation of Trumpian politics, not an endorsement of your half-arsed, jelly-spined, unambitious, planet-burning effort. Can Australia actually grow up now, please? #auspol

T. Ryan Gregory 🇨🇦@tryangregory.bsky.social

The lesson from the UK, Canada, and now Australia is that we need our "lesser evil" parties to be much more progressive, not just less awful than the conservative option.

Is it perverse of me to be very disappointed that Labor will be returned with a larger majority? I'm ecstatic that Dutton has lost his seat & the Libs have been beaten back, but why are we not more ambitious as a nation than barely mediocre & why are we locking ourselves into an inadequate duopoly?

I had not seen this. The use of the fundamentalist Christian sect as polling booth volunteers is reported by Nikki Sava to have come from Dutton's office. The Liberal party is tightly intertwined with regressive Christian ideology, another parallel with Trump #auspol #DontRiskDutton

The LNP supports indoctrination of its own choosing, championing doctrinal faith instruction in public schools, and spending millions on putting religious people in schools to do a role anyone can. The hypocrisy is immeasurable. #auspol bsky.app/profile/66ja...

This is a significant increase for an inherently discriminatory program, signaling again the Liberal's love of privileging religion, this time at the expense of student welfare; if you're not hiring on merit, you can't claim to prioritise student needs #auspol #ReligiousPrivilege #SecularGovernment

Julia Em@66jayel.bsky.social

Unsurprisingly, Liberals pledge to increase $ for school chaplains. They don't even use the current name of the program, so it's probably safe to assume they will remove the option to, heaven forbid, hire people on merit alone. #auspol www.liberal.org.au/policy/our-p...

If you want #ReligiousFreedom for all - freedom *from* as well as of religion - don't bother with the duopoly who will always be beholden to the noisy minority of the faithful & ignore the growing non-religious cohort. Conservative Christian group Freedom 4 Faith says it's extracted this promise⬇️
