So that vanity domain I accidentally let lapse with a .sexy TLD became available for registration... marked as premium... for like $3000... What a complete racket. I've e-mailed the registry and the registrar asking them to reconsider the premium designation,.

As an update on my physical container migration - it was less simple than I expected because we got hammered with rain and the ground was very soft. I eventually braced a tractor jack against... my tractor... and mostly got the job done. I deeply enjoyed the meta-ness of tractor-jack-on-tractor.

The details are now public, as of two hours ago. bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi... The secret P-384 keys for these intermediate CAs are all zeros except the last 8 bits. All not-updated software can be MITM'ed now. IOT boxes that can't or don't update are now trivially MITM'able forever.

I had a great engineering moment today. We were perseverating over how to trim a privacy fence (attached to a timber set in concrete) to a shipping container. Neither were absolutely level or plumb. "Hey... let's just shift the container so that it is both aligned with the post and supports it..."

ie rather than spending hours trimming a few pounds of sheet metal so that it aligns with many thousand pounds of steel... let's move the thousand pounds of steel a tiny bit so that this other job is easier.

doing so also supports the fence post against the wind - which is a hazard where I live. This will likely involve a bottle jack, a digger bar, and some rocks. Failure modes include the container settling in a way that compromises the post... ...but I think the fence will still be up.

What do y’all think crisis engineering is? Not management. I think it’s response coupled with a remit to use the available energy of a system available during response to apply Interdisciplinary pressure for change to prevent the circumstances that allowed it from recurring.

There are similar ideas in ecology - stable systems accrue stress which is released when they fail. Like wildfires. That release is an inflection point to change the otherwise stable system. Effecting change in a stable system is Hard.
