It's still hitting me that #deno runtime is no more. 🫠 I was so frustrated with #nodejs. I refused to use after deno came into the picture. πŸ˜“ One of my favorite abilities was making tiny cli/scripts tools with it. Sure I can write in #golang or the many others, but deno was nice quick way. 😎

I think using ai can be useful for many projects. Still... maintain the code you publish. 🫠 Just cause it's "cheap" doesn't mean you shouldn't still try.

#GnomeOS stabilizing! Very cool. They are trying immutable using almost entirely #systemd. 😁 It's pretty darn close to systemd os. And with it, some cutting edge design. Like the #zswap modeling. Or sysext and confext usage for changes. 😎

blogs.gnome.orgIntroducing GNOME OS PreviewTL;DR: We're launching a new edition called "GNOME OS Preview", which is built from the latest stable GNOME release. This means that GNOME OS is no longer just a nightly OS for GNOME developers and…

You should know how to use #git, #mercurial, #jujutsu, etc. Agents are not the answer here. 😑 Knowing how to traverse the tree and actually work with history is just as important as the code. If you can't do that... your better off not using #dvcs. Go do folder copies instead. 🀣

#sqlite latest 3.54 comes with some planner optimization. Enough that we get roughly 5% improvement across the board. 🀯 May not sound like a lot, but this is the thing that makes a world of difference when running thousands of db instances all over the place. 😁

sqlite.orgSQLite Release 3.54.0 On 2026-10-09CLI enhancements: CLI prompt strings may contain escape sequences that expand to show state information. The initial CLI prompt is now be initialized the values of the SQLITE_PS1 and SQLITE_PS2…

Building telemetry is immensely useful. It tells you what is wasted effort and how. Getting this in #nix effectively closes a very large gap. You don't have to guess what is taking long. Now you know why nix is downloading the whole internet. 🀣

determinate.systemsOpenTelemetry tracing for Determinate NixDeterminate Nix now exports OpenTelemetry traces of evaluations, builds, substitutions, HTTP requests, and daemon connections to any OTLP backend, including Honeycomb, Grafana Tempo, Jaeger, and…

Program exit codes not the same as program status. They only help for tools that actually exit. But nothing on status. Is guess work after that. πŸ˜… This new #osc7501 for programs is kind of brilliance. Covers that status piece. 😎

mitchellh.comA Terminal Protocol for Program Status (OSC 7501)I wrote a specification for a new terminal escape sequence: OSC 7501, the Program Status Protocol. It lets any program tell the terminal what it's doing: idle, working, waiting on the user, finished,…

Ok. I like #passkey like a lot. But you do still need a way without. And while I actually like magic links. It don't mean users do too. πŸ˜… So this #EVP thing looks promising. A way for recovery using fancier magic links essentially. 😁

blog.agektmr.comWhat is EVP? Bridging the remaining gap in the passkey eraHow the Email Verification Protocol (EVP) solves passkey fallback and account recovery challenges by bringing phishing resistance to email verification without...

We live in amazing times for #postgres. We have now #multigres and #neki. Both for sharding postgres in a way that is not you hacking 3+ instances of postgres with some duct tape code. 🫠 PTSD is still strong on that one. πŸ˜… can't wait to see maturity here. 😎

So #kagi browser #Orion will be open sourced. But not developed anymore by Kagi. And only for #Linux and windows. #Apple still need to pay for the browser. This is a first. πŸ˜… Likely open sourced version is to become something else.

blog.kagi.comAn Update on Orion for Linux and WindowsKagi is ending development of Orion for Linux and Windows and open-sourcing both so the community can carry them forward. Our small team will now focus fully on making Orion for macOS and iOS faster,…

And there goes #AWS, replacing most cloud jobs in aws. πŸ˜… There's still immense amount of complexity in such a provider, but it's pretty clear ai agents are going to make that much harder for newcomers. 🫠 Either that, or you start at senior level right from start.

It took #duckdb plugins to make me realize the power of #jev. 🀣 excellent overview on what you can do. Now scanning through a bunch of random local data to see of other quick analytical wins like this. 😁

duckdb.orgJev and DuckDB: Plain-English Conditions in SQLTypeSafe AI released Jev, a model that returns typed answers instead of text, on September 15, 2026. Within ten days, several community extensions let you filter, classify and score DuckDB rows with…

oh no... my monitor is getting burn in from all the years of use. 🫠 In this market, getting a new anything is like 3x the expense. ⚰️

Ok, so using #nix #flakes for distribution of packages or tools is kind of stellar. Mix with binary cache and you don't really need a different distribution model. 😎

I have clearly been not paying attention. But #linux kernel 7.1 is pretty big, at 200+ Mi. Basically, I found out cause I ran out of space on my EFI disk. Which is only 512 Mi. 🫠 I'll upgrade that partition size in the immediate future... πŸ˜… Especially with #UKI being a thing. 😁

It never even occurred to me there was no option, on #gnome, to select your default #terminal. Every install I do, I immediately make my own hotkey for spawning my preferred terminal. Never looking up default. πŸ˜… But... That's cause optional default! 🀯

omgubuntu.co.ukOption to set default terminal is coming to GNOME Settings - OMG! UbuntuAn option pick a default terminal is to GNOME Settings, as the image above, teased by developer Ignacy KuchciΕ„ski last week, shows. Those of you who don't
