Making games is hard. On the third anniversary of Alan Wake 2, here's the funniest bugs we sent to the Dark Place. More on our YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/bh4uFU5f5oo #AlanWake2

Feeling like a massive brain genius for successfully implementing ReSTIR in my raytracer for noise reduction. Left and right side of each screenshot both cast the same number of rays!

It’s hard to describe to non-programmers the buzz that comes from getting your head around an algorithm. For days now I’ve been marvelling at how clever it is

I am doing a Brother check-in. Showing support for one another...I need SIX men to post, not share, this message to show you are always there if someone needs to talk. Pretty sure I know who will.

Emily is telling me how American consumer banking used pneumatic tubes for cheque drop-off as recently as the 90s. Not often I have a “how did I not know this” moment after this much time here

Patch notes: - Fixed darkness doubling - Lightning no longer strikes itself - Rain makes the correct sound

[imsim audio log voice] You nincompoops keep forgetting the key code to the storage room, so I’ve changed it to something you can’t forget: 4. That‘s right... 4! If you run out of ammo during tomorrow’s training exercise, you only have yourselves to blame! 4, got it??

Summer and winter should cycle on a schedule of, say, 3 months instead of a year. I think that would solve almost every issue with them

movie discourse on this website is all people being like "I actually ALREADY decided to never see this PROBLEMATIC movie because I NEVER leave my house"

Compulsive thing I’ve been doing lately is singing phrases in my head to the tune of the “Samurai Pizza Cats” theme, a show I never actually saw as a child

Haven’t posted an update on my Marathon raytracing project in a while: here’s a little M2 playthrough. Diffuse lighting is looking good, and I’ve got reflection and refraction working for water too - though it’s a little hard to see through all the noise

Got emission and normal maps hooked up. Water reflections/refractions look especially good. These recordings are still coming out desaturated - I promise it looks better when you play it!

It’s called the Schlick Approximation because it makes Approximately everything look kind of Schlick

I wish world-space coordinates were real. I’d feel so much safer knowing there were global XYZ axes

I swear this video got darker at every step. Looked fine in-game; screen recording looked slightly dimmed; re-encoding for upload made it dimmer still, and the final result on Bluesky is barely watchable

If anyone wants to help out with this project btw, let me know. I’m a dog in a lab coat and there’s so much left to figure out: smarter sampling, denoising, PBR stuff, etc.
