Conservatives wanted Barack Obama impeached over the money he agreed to pay Iran (which was Iran’s money, frozen in U.S. banks), which was $1.7 billion. Trump is going to hand Iran 176 times that amount. trib.al/YEFHCNb

Still mad the Bears didn’t draft him.

Randy Moss’ Pro Day at Marshall was a marvel to see. He got out of his car, barely stretched and then recorded a 44-inch vertical. He ran a 4.2 with swirling winds and no warm-up. He threw up and then finished his workout. “Everybody there watching was in awe.”

Let me see if I've got the Paramount deal correct: A company worth $15b with about $15b in debt is spending $110b to buy a competitor which will leave them with $79b in debt AND they're paying another competitor (Netflix) $2b for the privilege?

Sad stuff about the Washington Post layoffs. It’s almost certainly due to declining readership over the past couple years as Jeff Bezos truly revealed himself as one of the worst billionaires. Looking forward to whoever reports that story out for the @nytimes.com

TACO Trump as the investment bankers call him

The New York Times@nytimes.com

News Analysis: President Trump's assault on global trade has lost any semblance of structure. He has changed deadlines, blown up negotiations and tied his tariffs to complaints that have nothing to do with trade. It's preventing companies and countries from making plans.

An insane amount of bias that surely didn’t come out when Biden’s agenda was rolling thru in 2021/2022.

"Trump is at the top of his game right now," says our Capitol bureau chief and senior Washington columnist Rachael Bade. Watch Bade break down his four biggest wins of the past two weeks and read her column about how he dominated Congress here 👇 ow.ly/XJWA50WkI3k

Exactly. It goes towards the Fetterman interview yesterday as well - holding public office is often performative and routine. However, a major part of the job description is to shape public opinion through words and actions. If you’re not willing to do that, get out of politics.

jamelle@jamellebouie.net

if your grand approach to politics is bloodless poll-testing so that you're always aligned with wherever public opinion happens to be, you've already lost

Little girls and boys who like dolls are now collectively “the beast”.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump: "When you say strollers are going up -- what kind of a thing? I'm saying that gasoline is going down. Gasoline is thousands of times more important than a stroller someplace ... you don't need to have 35 dolls. You can have 2, 3, 4, and save a lot of money. We don't need to feed the beast."

A whole lot of "viewpoint diversity" from people who are banning "diversity, equity, and inclusion".

Here's one of the many clarifying passages in the White House (notionally GSA) letter. It demands Harvard set up a system of political commissars who will enforce hiring and admissions set asides for MAGA luminaries and high school red hats.

The Democrat vs Republican debate is fundamentally based on one party that doesn’t believe in the federal government (for various reasons). At least Harriet here admits that openly. The curious thing is why they even run for positions in that government, likely boils down to paychecks for no work.

News Eye@newseye.bsky.social

Holy shit. Republican Harriet Hagemen got torn apart at a town hall in Wyoming last night. In a state that voted for Trump by 46 points. She tried defending DOGE and it went as well as you’d imagine. “Deport Elon, Deport Elon!” Watch to the end…

These folks are just happy as pigs in shit that Trump is president so they can sell more subscriptions.

The absolute main takeaway from the election was Trump got centrist and low-info voters on the promise of lowering prices. Should be front page, Apple News feed-level stories about this change in “tone”.

Tom Scocca@tomscocca.bsky.social

Trump's failure to deliver on one of his basic campaign promises—the promise that targeted centrist newswriters and politics knowers—is suddenly all disembodied abstractions, *a shifting tone resetting expectations*, a natural process happening entirely on its own

Counterpoint: None of this is remotely shocking to those of us well aware that the GOP has long wanted to dismantle the federal government.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez@aoc.bsky.social

Yes. While there are absolutely things Democrats can and must do to slow, obstruct, etc, GOP hold both House and Senate majorities, severely limiting our options. Johnson and Thune are handing over the own keys and relinquishing their own power. Even for the cynics this should be a shock.

Rogan interview with Zuckerberg that dropped this morning is something to behold. basically him dumping years of anger at the media, the government, social discussion clearly all pent up for years and now allowing himself to do it because of Trump coming to power www.youtube.com/watch?v=7k1e...

@billbarnwell.com not sure why you don’t share your articles to this space. But I will say, picking this Packers team to make the Super Bowl with a beat up QB, playing their worst football the past few weeks, probably won’t age too well…

“By all accounts, the Americans virtually ensured their own defeat: They repeatedly bombed their closest supporters here, showing just how little the United States understood about the war it was fighting.”

The New York Times@nytimes.com

In a valley in Afghanistan, Americans killed and maimed innocent people who supported them most, sabotaging the U.S. in a part of the country where it never needed to be. Here's how the U.S. lost the valley, then a battle and finally a decades-long war.
