I have heard this song a million times and just now listened to the first verse. The vocals are slightly louder on this live recording and that made all the difference lol. Not once did I hear "placenta falls to the floor". Anyhoo, not about religion.

And now, 100+ hours later, this is finally done. The client has given me permission to share this in a video (or more than one) breaking this map down layer-by-layer, so stay tuned! Not sure when that'll be. Meanwhile, off to bike to the UPS store so I can look at a print! #maps #sciart #alaska

+20M visits from Canada in the 2010s is pretty wild. Their population was like ~35M.

Visitors to the US are on track to drop by almost two million year-on-year. “We’re the only major country in the world losing visitation,” the head of the US Travel Association said. “It’s mind-boggling.” www.semafor.com/article/09/2...

Knoxville "Topo" Map WIP I am a big fan of mid-century USGS Topo maps. This is a 48k scale 24x36 version of Knoxville. Still have many labels to edit. One day, I will stop making multiline labels in QGIS. They are a pain to edit in Illustrator/Affinity. #gis #cartography #gischat

A few days ago, Lake Mead water levels were mentioned (I don't remember the post), which got me curious. Normally, I like to create a little map, but I didn't have time for that. So I made a quick screen record of a swipe map. July 1984 v July 2026 Seems not ideal. #gischat

I hate driving most new cars. They are big and isolated from the road, it is hard to tell how fast you are going without staring at the speedo. 25 mph feels the same as 50!

Drivers who speed because they like the feeling of going fast should ride a bike. It feels fast at 20 mph.

First rule of cartography: first we make ugly maps and then we make them pretty. This is a corollary to "write drunk, edit sober". #gischat do you have any rules or encouragement you tell yourself?

I have seen this gap in census primary road layer for years. I assumed it was a state highway that ended and became a residential street or something. Nope! It's I-275 and that's I-40 to the south. Le sigh

This map uses a graphic technique to argue that New York City was already a mostly socialist community by the end of the 19th century. It uses just two colors: red, the printing color, and the negative white space of the paper color.

New on the blog: "On Sin," in which I meditate on cartographic ethics, and invite discussion on a thorny problem: how we might decide if or when the inaccuracies embedded in a #map cause it to become unethical.

About halfway through, I stopped reading their positions and got most of them right. Trying to guess the "did not votes" tripped me up. Race, gender & age (mostly the first two) should get you a passing score.

There are many different kinds of Trump supporters. Some are simply clueless. Here. Take this quiz. It tells you about clueless low info voters. Most high info voters flunk it. www.americansurveycenter.org/quiz/

I am rearranging my home office, a process that will probably take 10 yrs or so, and I was thinking about getting a MercatorHater poster for my freshly painted walls. I didn't find anything, so I will probably have to make it myself. But Google did send me this Medium post from @mapcenter.com.

I wrote about a similar thing a few months ago. My main issue was saying Lat/Lon (which correlates to Y/X) and then saying X/Y (which correlates with Lon/Lat). Inverting the pairs led to downstream confusion. I started saying: Lon-Lat-X-Y And it helped! 🥳 antonioantoine.com/2026/02/17/l...

I keep getting confused when latitude and longitude numbers are negative and when they are positive. Well, this cheat map helps! Source: buff.ly/OqIQoJX

Today in 2020, I photographed Comet Neowise from downtown Knoxville. With the pandemic raging, it was fascinating to see people all take pictures of it from around where they live instead of traveling to exotic locations.

Black people aren't even 40% of a single state. If DC ever gets statehood, it will be the only one (42%). Further, black people are NOT half of the South. Just over half of the black pop (57%) lives in the South. They only make up 19% of the South's population.

Many counties in the Deep South have high proportion black populations; however, black people typically live in cities. Most of the Black Belt is made up of high proportion/relatively low black population locations.
