"Sweet Caroline" just came on in the background at this work conference, and my brain doesn't know how to process this song playing but everyone NOT singing/screaming along to it.

Now it's playing YMCA. I think whoever runs the music is trying to find the breakpoint point where everyone throws professionalism out the window and this turns into a dance party.

Friendly reminder that cigarette smoke smells kinda unpleasant, but cigarette smoke plus air freshener smells infinitely worse.

Slack shows 5 unread notifications. I open it, glance at the 2-3 highest priority ones (context: it’s my day off). I close it. Slack now shows 9 unread notifications.

I could wax poetic all day about the many wonderful aspects of working at a distributed, largely-European company. But the fact that most of the team works on US holidays (paired with my own chronic inability to ignore notifications) is probably the most persistent downside. Worth it, but still.

“What Mike Johnson is actually doing is something every product person will recognize. He is refusing to ship until every stakeholder agrees and the requirements are complete. That is the single most reliable way to kill a product, and everyone who has ever built one knows it.” l1nq.com/ynfsssw

uxdesign.ccThe lie we keep telling ourselves about regulating AIThe excuse for not regulating AI is that nobody can agree how. The people who built the internet would find that laughable.

Today, Upsun Dispatch™ is live! 🚀 AI made engineers faster. It didn't make teams faster. Upsun Dispatch is the software factory for human-AI workflows built to close that gap: workflow as the primitive, agents and humans shipping together. Get started 👉 upsun.com/dispatch/

RT with your home river (hey, why not something wholesome for a change?) These days, the Potomac. Previously the Susquehanna. Going far enough back, the three rivers: Allegheny, Ohio, Monongahela.

RT with your home river That would be the Salt River thru Phoenix, which has flowing water only rarely anymore. Going back to birth state, it would be Ohio's Cuyahoga, once known for being so polluted its oil slick sometimes caught fire. (A lot cleaner now.)

No, universe, you can't take Dolly Parton. You can have Mitch McConnell instead. And fine, that's not an even trade, so I'll throw in a walking carrot with a bad toupee.

Nothing like rewatching season 1 of Supernatural and doubling over with laughter every time they talk about how demons are super rare and impossible to kill. 🤣

One of the worst things in the world is when you kill a mosquito and discover it was FULL of blood, so you know it already bit you and you’re gonna find out where in a few hours. 😭

You suddenly get a narrator describing your life and there’s no way to turn it off - everyone can hear it. While shopping, at work, at home, with friends - the voice narrating your every move goes on. Who do you hope is the voice of this narrator?

The entirety of my feed is arguing over whether Minions worked for Hitler and all I can think is: 1) we really live in times where “oh good, today’s Nazi discourse isn’t about real news” is a valid thought, and 2) y’all need Godwin’s Law

Disclosure Day was such a disconcerting mixture of really good movie and pretty darn bad movie mixed together… I’d give it a 70/30 split. Not a frame of mediocre in there though.

Great acting. Amazing cinematography. Some really clever plot points and concepts, strung together with gaping plot holes and macguffins. And if you told me the 3rd-tier CGI was from the same director who insisted on practical effects for Jurassic Park, I’d tell you you’d been bonked on the head.

Two Guatemalan farmworkers speaking an Indigenous Mayan language were arrested by ICE and forced to sign papers they didn't understand. A judge later ruled the agents' actions "reckless and erroneous," but their case exposes a systemic failure of translation services in the justice system.

I wish Duolingo let you turn off the dumb gamification stuff, for those of us who just want to practice language and don’t give a hoot (pun intended) about gems or streaks or leaderboards.

To be clear, I oppose the death penalty… but so long as it’s a thing we’re still doing, I think getting “Wonderwall” stuck in people’s heads should be a capital offense.

The lovely @atmasweapon.com and I got to meet Jim Butcher!!! The only thing better than a weekend full of panels (and a small group gathering!) with your favorite author is learning firsthand that said author is a super cool and genuinely good guy.

Narrator: She turned the car around and installed Layout Paragraphs

Abby Milberg@abbymilberg.com

Oh Drupal Canvas, you tease. Waddaya mean you're on version 2.0 and don't have full integration with menus or the common workflow modules? Don't make me turn this car around and install Layout Paragraphs...

Aghhhhh, I saw the first spider of the season. What’s worse, when I looked away and back it was gone, so now every itch or tickle triggers OH GOD IS IT ON ME?! 😭
