Or in the immortal words of Mal Reynolds: “It costs nothing to say something nice. Even less to shut up all together.”

Kevin M. Kruse@kevinmkruse.bsky.social

Hey, fellas, before you write that white hot take about how rape is such a tricky thing and, I mean, who can really say what happened and, you know, maybe we should not be too judgmental, I'd like to remind you that instead you can simply shut the fuck up.

Can’t make this up. Call 988 (suicide hotline). Pleasant recording about for Spanish press 2, for veteran press 3, for LGBTQ+ press 4. Otherwise stay online for counselor and listen to pleasant music. 6 seconds into music and…..click. They hung up on me. What a metaphor for our times.

Living in the U.S. today feels like taking the SAT test, locating the *easily identified* wrong multiple choice answer right away, and then making sure we pick it. Every. Single. Day.

Liberal normies and rightish normies are mobilizing against ICE organically. Together. It would be extremely foolish to ignore this interest convergence around a moral good.

Guys, with understanding that everyone is angry right now, I am honestly going to start blocking people who say things like, "Who cares? The law doesn't matter anymore," or "They can do whatever they want, they can't be stopped" etc. I mean, if you really feel that way, you're a part of the problem.

Spotify is running ICE ads. I went to cancel on mobile and saw that this isn’t allowed on mobile. They make you cancel on desktop. You think that’s gonna stop me, Spotify? I will erase you and forget you ever existed. THOU SHALT CANCEL SPOTIFY!!!

Take note of all these people turning out for protests in small towns in red states. Remember them the next time you’re inclined to write an area off because “they voted for this.”

Reminds me of the aphorism that disorganized democracy is no match for organized greed.

Asha Rangappa@asharangappa.bsky.social

The issue is not surrendering. It’s understanding that policy differences don’t make a damn bit of difference if you no longer have the democratic structures in place to debate and decide them. Unite over saving democracy, then we can go back to fighting over our policy differences.

Murder to settle disagreements is older than the idea we can settle them through talk and compromise. That more nobler approach is only possible if we all work to make it possible. And rewarding those who demonize their fellow citizens with positions of power destroys it for all of us.

Anyone who abhors the murder of Carlie Kirk - or Melissa Hortman - or any one of dozens killed through political violence in the last 10 years - who also rewards men like Trump with their vote and support- is just as culpable and those who pulled the trigger.

Houston (& greater area) peeps, this is a biggie. Indivisible has organized a rally against redistricting on Saturday at 2. I’ll be posting a special “Stuff to Do” entry today that addresses state and nationwide actions. Texas is ground zero for the most authoritarian power grab yet. No way, Jose!

If an administration set policy that they could and would deport naturalized Jewish citizens who’ve been here for decades for their DEI support to gulags in foreign countries we would be up in fucking arms.

Where it starts is never where it starts. The news that DOJ is prioritizing denaturalizations, combined with very vague explanations of who they will prioritize, is deeply concerning. open.substack.com/pub/joycevan...

Imagine getting a work visa in Europe and then one morning the gestapo shove you into a van, put you on a plane, and send you to a gulag in Siberia.

One of the thing CA illustrates is that the coalition that made sure anti-Trump protesters stayed AWAY from Jan. 6 was an incredibly smart preemptive move. They were counting on that to trigger/justify exactly the reaction we are seeing now 1/
