If you haven’t already, I encourage you to check out The Society for Nursing Ethics International (SONEI). The SONEI website includes a rich repository of nursing-ethics related resources. My essay on everyday ethics in nursing is on the SONEI blog this week:

I am a student at Brown in communication with a friend at RIBC. There is an urgent need for blood donations to support RI. Donations in NY, NJ, MN, NB, DE or NJ can help supply RI. Spread the word. www.ribc.org/donate-blood/

It will also likely disincentivize folks from pursuing nursing at the Bachelors degree level - the possibility of career advancement through graduate studies is something that draws many people into nursing in the first place.

For years we’ve struggled to increase public conversation about end of life care and advance directives. The Pitt may just be showing us the model for how to do it. Viewers were more likely to seek/share information about organ donation and EOL care. This is accessible ethics education in action!

Remembering the relief we felt when my then 6 month old was finally old enough to receive his first dose in 2021, and the way we navigated the world with such care before that point.

Housing first

“In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.” It costs a lot less to house people.

#Bioethics Hello everyone! I'm looking for papers addressing the ethical duties that emerge when unexpected environmental emergencies happen in a research site, while we are in the middle of a clinical / biomedical research

The bioethics/applied health ethics/public health ethics starter pack is full (150 people!). Rather than removing less active folks or gatekeeping I'll start another one - so keep letting me know if you're interested in being listed or see anyone who should be added. go.bsky.app/ERXDCeB

Housing is healthcare

Denver gave people experiencing homelessness $1k/month. A year later, nearly half had housing. They also had fewer ER visits, nights spent in a hospital, and jail stays. The report estimates that this reduction in public service use SAVED the city $589k. www.businessinsider.com/denver-basic...

#3 is esp important from a distributional perspective, as it comports w/ the notion of a (Rosean) Whole Population Approach. Whole Pop interventions tend more to meet the twin aims of #HealthJustice (improving overall health & compressing health inequalities). Reduce stigma risks, too. #PHEthx

In particular, I'd like to highlight this excerpt, as it speaks to a foundational concept in public health ethics: Twin aims models of #Justice. Ethically optimal public health interventions should maximize two goals: improvement of overall pop health, and compression of health inequalities. 1/
