📸 #AUFA Part-Time Engagement Committee booth during Fair Employment Week. Recognizing all contingently employed faculty members for their hard work and dedication to the institution and the success of our students.

As we do so, we also emphasize the importance of advocating for equal employment opportunities and addressing the contingent and precarious employment status of many faculty members at #Acadia University.

The core finding from this research is that climate change and trade are deeply connected. Looking only at national emissions can miss how production, jobs, and environmental impacts move across borders. International cooperation is essential for climate action.

This figure displays maps of CO2 emissions (left) and value added (right) change rates for 2002, 2012, and 2022, revealing heterogeneous impacts of China’s GVC participation across the world.

Overall, the evidence points to China evolving toward a hybrid status: still influenced by advanced economies yet increasingly shaping economic development and environmental outcomes worldwide.

Brazil’s experience shows that impacts can change over time. What began mainly as environmental gains gradually evolved into a combination of economic gains and lower emissions as ties with China expanded.

Not every country benefited. Russia experienced periods when China’s value-chain role was linked to both higher emissions and weaker economic performance, highlighting uneven outcomes.

Without China’s participation in global supply chains, global CO₂ emissions would have been higher. In 2022, the difference was roughly 0.9 gigatons of CO₂—more than the total emissions from Canada or Germany.

The United States experienced a trade-off: lower emissions but also some loss of value added. In contrast, countries such as Germany and Japan enjoyed both economic gains and lower emissions.

The products we use every day are made through global value chains (GVCs). Dr. Yang and his co-authors examine how China’s growing role in those networks has affected value added and carbon emissions around the world.

China’s own emissions grew as production expanded, but emissions fell elsewhere by even more. Overall, China’s participation in global value chains helped reduce global CO₂ emissions.

AUFA votes on BDS 🧵

AUFA has a proud history of fighting for equity and social justice. This important motion is a recognition that this fight doesn't end at the borders of our campus.

The AUFA executive will take the motion forward to the Administration and update the membership on further communications.

AUFA votes on BDS 🧵

On September 21, 2026 AUFA members overwhelmingly voted to endorse the 2005 call of Palestinian civil society to Boycott, Divest, and Sanction Israel.

The motion calls on the Acadia administration to suspend all institutional partnerships with Israeli academic institutions and divest from and boycott all Israeli institutions until Israel ends its policies of military occupation and apartheid.

AUFA votes on BDS 🧵

On February 26, 2026 the AUFA membership passed a motion denouncing the Israeli government's scholasticide of Palestinian society.

More than 170 Palestinian civil society organizations issued a call in 2005 for Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS). This call is supported by Faculty Associations at several Canadian Universities.

AUFA votes on BDS 🧵

In 2025, the AUFA Executive Committee adopted a motion that AUFA takes a public position on the genocide/scholasticide in Palestine and articulate what it will do to bring the genocide to an end.

Dr. Faraone and her team are decoding the "chemical language" of ticks, who use tiny sensory organs to detect odours from people, pets, and wildlife. The team studies how ticks smell, navigate, and choose their hosts.

Their research helps develop new tick repellents and acaricides, including plant-derived compounds and advanced formulations that aim to protect people, pets, and outdoor workers.
