In the 60s and 70s, segregation in LA schools was among the highest in the country. 45 years after we won changes to address these pervasive racial disparities, the DOJ is trying to undo that progress. We're intervening because every student deserves equal access to educational opportunities.

No one should have to live wondering whether they or someone they love will be disappeared by the government. Which is why today we’re asking a federal court to block the government’s practice of conducting unlawful, warrantless arrests.

No one is safe when ICE feels empowered to detain U.S. citizens, use violence, and retaliate against those exercising our free speech rights. ACLU state affiliates across the country are representing people harmed by federal law enforcement to make sure immigration agents aren't let off the hook.

In newly disclosed records, we've exposed what advocates on the ground have known all along: the Trump administration has a pattern of stopping people simply for appearing to be low-income or working-class and Latine.

BREAKING: ICE is telling some of its agents to pause vehicle stops after ICE officers shot and killed two people in the past week. This is good news, but nothing will bring back the victims of ICE's abuse. We need real, permanent policy changes to stop this rogue agency from killing any more of us.

Last month's Supreme Court ruling opened the door for states to draw maps that dilute the power of voters of color. That doesn't change the fact it's discriminatory and undemocratic for politicians to manipulate elections through redistricting. Our Voting Right Project director shares the latest.

Let us be clear: We have a First Amendment right to record federal agents working in public.

Last week, a federal appeals court affirmed what we all know: exercising our rights to free speech should never be met with attacks by federal agents.

On April 1, in a win for SoCal residents and our rights to free speech, the Ninth Circuit recognized an “avalanche” of evidence demonstrating that journalists, legal observers and protesters were subjected to retaliatory force by federal agents during immigration-related protests.

Riverside Sheriff Bianco has repeatedly drawn criticism for misleading claims, whether regarding his department’s lack of transparency or the alarming number of in-custody deaths in Riverside County. His latest action — seizing over half a million voter ballots — continues this troubling pattern.

Against the backdrop of the U.S. DOJ pressuring states to turn over unredacted voter rolls, Bianco’s fishing expedition sets a dangerous precedent and reeks of election meddling. We cannot look away as a local official engages in an authoritarian power grab straight out of Trump’s playbook.
