No one needs me to jump in on this, but Obama didn't say he didn't like the Cheesecake Factory. Only that a Cheesecake Factory has certain aesthetic. And if you've been to one, you know. Of course, they know this. I mean, they are stupid, yes, but... Anyhoo, enjoy your cheesecake. From the factory.

i am inviting anyone from a legacy media organization to explain to me why the house judiciary dems report on trump’s epstein’s ties and multiple allegations of rape isn’t worthy of extensively reporting on. i’m serious. i want to understand.

A serial rapist was elected twice as President, a fact we don't reckon with nearly enough. Now one of two major political parties has been molded in his image, run for and by violent sexual abusers who hate women.

Someday I'm going to read True Grit and I have a feeling it will become my favorite book. I love the Cohen Brother's movie so I know the story and all I ever hear about the book is how wonderful it is. Someday. Just you wait.

This sucks so much. For shame, @joshturek4iowa.bsky.social

Josh Turek of Iowa, Democrat, comes out with one of the worst anti-trans ads yet. Not only is it an anti-sports ad, it proposes a ban on federal funding for gender affirming care. That would hit all medicaid and medicare patients, and any ACA federally-subsidized plans as well. Horrific.

Ramaswamy has produced an attack ad weaponizing the rape of his opponent, Amy Acton, when she was 12 years old. It features Acton’s mother, who abandoned Acton after she was raped by her step-father, fleeing the state with her husband. Here is the corporate money helping fund that ad.

Current text from every Democrat in a tight race in every corner of this country: I am about to lose and it will be your fault if you don't send me 8 dollars right now.

The yearly dilemma is here again: do I get a bunch of pumpkins for the front for decoration or do I not spend all that money? I do like whimsy, people. I do love all the pumpkins. And yet, the guilt of the spending.

Terror and joy. Confidence and self-doubt. The best artists live right in that uncomfortable middle. You have to be scared of what will happen if you don't do your best, and strong enough to put yourself out there anyway. You don't ever get comfortable. You do it because you love it.

Repulsive. I'm not surprised, but it still makes me feel like I'm going to explode. Please please please please let there be some kind of justice within this universe where somehow, someway, these monsters in charge experience some sort of karma for their crimes against humanity and the world.

I don't know, I'd actually think it would be pretty commonplace for someone to assume that most individuals (or customers) they are seeing in their toy shop are not able or willing to afford a 15,000 wind up bird toy thing. I wouldn't personalize the experience too much.

Below--I watched the whole thing. All 6 episodes. I feel like maybe the writers were pranking us. This is such a mess and really not in a fun enough way. Just a plain old mess.

I’ll say again: Scientology, what? How do seemingly intelligent people—educated, aware, worldly, etc.—become so duped? I don’t get it. Anything I ever learn about it makes me roll my eyes.

People that have that thing where they don't think in images--how do dreams work for them? And do dreams create from what is already known, or can our brains invent new images while we sleep? If I'm dreaming about an apple orchard, is my brain referencing one I've seen already? no one knows, I bet.

Seriously, Dems, please keep talking about how obsessed he is with ballrooms, arches, and golf courses.

I'm overwhelmed by the number of wild and crazy things that happened on tonight's Survivor. All the Brodys and their plans and shenanigans! #Survivor51

I somehow have gotten the "help me pick my wedding dress" reddit constantly showing up on my reddit feed. And of course I have to now help every woman pick her wedding dress. It's a lot of work, but it has to be done. I'm here to help.

Ordered small IGLOO cooler & what came was a pair of shelves. Not even close. Now I have to return them and, yes, first world problems, but this is such a strange mix up and your girl does not want to drive out to a UPS store with a big, long box. I'm rightly being punished for ordering via Amazon .

I think these dudes who rape--date rapers (the most common type)--convince themselves that it isn't rape, somehow. A tricky leap from the wanting to taking. I have to wonder if they don't grasp (not that they would want to) how much harm they are causing. If they knew the harm, would they proceed?

Clearly, I'm not saying anything new. I'm trying to grapple with how this happens over and over again and how we even have discussions and debates about what is right and necessary. The main thing is, we are failing girls and women. We aren't even trying. WE AREN'T EVEN TRYING!

Maybe the harm is known, it's just also devalued. Whatever harm we experience is not as important that whatever it is the man wants. And our justice is meaningless, especially if it means bringing down a man. Should we be thankful just to exist, I guess?

She must have at least been expecting this to happen. That is what is believed. And so we are failing. We are not really teaching what consent means, obviously. Truly. But we are also not teaching boys, men, society to value girls and women and their personhood.

And how being a victim in this way is beyond the trauma of the experience (which is, indeed, horrid) but it's also learning how much we do not matter. How little we are valued. And that is gutting.

I also know--because I am a therapist and a woman--that the worst part of the experience of the victim is being dehumanized. And recognition that someone is capable of that and, what's more, so easily capable.

But it feels like society & the men who rape do not fully accept and understand the level of harm they are causing. They think, well, I wasn't a stranger who broke in and held her down at knifepoint. She was there. She was flirty. she was drinking. And so she must have been willing to some degree.

I'm hopefully not minimizing the awfulness of the wanting and the acting. To have any interest in sexual activity with an unwilling or unconscious participant is grotesque and baffling. And there's certainly a groupthink phenomenon to many of these situations, especially in frats.

I don't know how else to say this, but maybe everything--everything--is just stupid. Everything is stupid. Not that many things aren't also good and lovely and necessary. But we have a lot of stupid. I think I'm tired.

feels like at least part of what is happening is that a lot of people want politics to solve the "my life feels empty" problem and the populist right is directly appealing to them
