When Democrats do well this fall, we’re going to see a lot of “strategists” trying to take credit for their approach. The trans panic people have been nothing but a drag on Democratic momentum and they need to fuck off into the sun

Enough reflecting on mortality. Time for late dinner, which happens to be pork soup dumplings.

Next month it’ll be a year since a friend passed away. She died when I was in the hospital. The last conversation I had with her was to thank her, for being my friend, for encouraging me, for being here.

Short fiction newsletter drop! First since being hospitalized last year. New title, new site design, new story. It's good to be back.

I think about this every time someone says that AI will give everyone their own personal tutor and that means we don't need student tutors. I run a tutoring center at a college. I don't hire student tutors bc they know all the things, I hire them so they can learn while teaching and learn to teach.

God let nothing I do in my professional career ever be described as “defective at a level that’s challenging the imagination of many of the engineers studying the incident”

I’m incredibly proud of my wife @jeanschwab.bsky.social ‘s project Jeanville County, writing about and exploring local government. Her most recent issue is a clear-eyed explainer on how to wade through the tall grass of how to vote and doing the work of sifting through candidates’ positions.

🧵 Attention, Fellow SFF Artists and Authors -- here is my response to Must Read Magazines, after they presented an Asimov's art contract expecting me to waive all Moral Rights and Copyright to my art. And, I would strongly advise the following to my fellow pros…. 1/

Be skeptical of the dumb shit people say when they’re selling you things, like, e.g., godlike artificial intelligence They’ve made a Teddy Ruxpin for parents who hate their kids and we’re supposed to call it Jehovah

Nancy Mace read at least one book where the premise was gods don’t exist if people don’t pay attention to them and she reacted to it like a high school freshman boy reacted to reading Atlas Shrugged

god. I just woke restless from a dream. Listening to someone else’s dream is horrifically uninteresting. But experiencing this dream was just as boring.

Oh man, Caspian has a new album coming out. It’s been 6 years since ON CIRCLES. It’s been 19 years since THE FOUR TREES, when I started listening to them. I’m still here, and so are they.

From Sunday

The low point for today (“the low point for today *so far*”) is my wife alerting me to a missed call from the elementary school classroom. No answer from room or front office when she calls back. It was nothing—she got dialed accidentally—but that’s 5 minutes our hearts didn’t beat.

And I said “What about Breakfast at Tiffany’s” She said “I think I remember the film “And as I recall I think I loved Mickey Rooney” And I said “Well that’s the one thing wait what”

25 years ago it was my first day of my first year of college.

After 3+ years I'm leaving my position as Fiction Editor at @literarymama.bsky.social to gift myself more time to write. I have absolutely LOVED this role at LM; it's a privilege to work closely with writers on their stories with my co-editor Marie. Please share: literarymama.com/blog/archive...
