Interesting how many geniuses on this site know exactly how prediction markets are consistently wrong and yet have no interest in making millions of dollars by exploiting said inefficiencies and structural flaws

I encourage any future Dem President to think along these lines and keep pressing until the other side is willing to accept a return of the rule of law. Unilateral disarmament doesn't work bsky.app/profile/gran...

if your opposition to Polymarket, Kalshi, etc. has anything to do with thinking they're inaccurate you missed the point imo these companies are bad and should be regulated into extinction for reasons entirely unrelated to their validity as predictive instruments

That last one is completely optional. For a debate to be worthwhile, it does not need either of the people involved to change their mind; it only requires that the audience leave informed.

Alex Says Stuff@alexsaysstuff.bsky.social

Like, to have a meaningful debate, you require at least two participants who: - know a lot about the subject - have some common values about the purpose of the debate - hold conflicting positions on the subject - but do not hold those positions particularly strongly

The fact that Western publics are unreasonably mad at objective trade-offs and tolerable living standards (and have to make up new words to describe a nebulous “crisis”) is bad because it generates real crises (avoiding trade-offs causes debt crises, grievance politics cause democratic crises).

Will Stancil@whstancil.bsky.social

“It’s real, even if it doesn’t show up in charts.” How do you know it’s real, then? How do you know that you’re not simply insisting on a reality you prefer, in the face of evidence? How would you support your view? Is it falsifiable, at all? How are you any different from MAGA in this respect?

The story of BLM was critical masses of angry liberals being used as cover for smaller groups to achieve their actual desired ends (anarchists, hooligans, and looters). It is not a coincidence that the "decentralization" of protest movements post-OWS coincides with their total uselessness.

These people are in love with the aesthetics of radicalism and the libidinal thrill of righteous violence. They are not interested in doing the political work required to improve their material circumstances, which they find boring.

youtubers, streamers, podcasters, etc are always on this beat bc they don't know how anything works & know that if they say something like this, their audiences will lap it up now & also 3 years later when they point to total gay commie revolution not happening and go "see? i was right!"

Your takeaway from the Israeli statement should be to remember that the 3.4 million Palestinians of the West Bank live under a permanent and unaccountable military-security state that has existed for nearly sixty years, and that every major political party in Israel is committed to maintaining it.

Brad Lander@bradlander.bsky.social

The Israeli Foreign Ministry is lying. No coordination was required, and we were never told that it was. We were not in a restricted security area. We did not pass any checkpoints.

i loathe this man but he's honestly better than our senators and the tent is certainly big enough for gavin newsom

Newsom: "Trump is ruthless. I'm sorry -- we need to be a little more ruthless. And if you think I'm exaggerating, I woke up this morning & read Trump wants to arrest me. He said on Truth Social. He's not screwing around. He's trying to quite literally rig the election again today in the state of CA"

As we all know, the natural state of the world is warlords and gangsters. But this idealic utopia has somehow been snatched away from our poor little fascists by jews/women/civilization/etc, and thus the most important thing is to support ALL gangsters and warlords who carry the torch of raw power.

lastpositivist.bsky.social@lastpositivist.bsky.social

On some level I don't really get why the Western Right like Putin. Isn't he just the head of a rival group of mercantilist gangsters? They seem to buy into some kinda Legitimate Sphere of Dominance theory but I don't get why their ambitions work that way.

alright man, keep on fomenting secession in neighboring countries and see where that gets you. california really is the most deranged blue state in america. our senators should all be retired.

My first stop was Alberta, the only province not boycotting Californian wines. I spoke to provincial leaders about the importance of the Canadian market to California farmers and the importance of continuing close collaboration on dairy, beef and energy trade.

Stuff like this is why the Canadian political establishment is (correctly, IMO) assuming that Democrats can NOT be trusted to return the bilateral relationship to the status quo ante going forward.

so restricting Ukraine's Starlink was Musk's idea, but after Moscow took advantage he became "alarmed about the possibility of adverse consumer reaction in Europe" to the "night of carnage" and denied responsibility I mean, it sounds like typical Elon

An aspect of fascism is a nihilistic violence — not strategic, or really designed to achieve anything, besides the violence itself, and insecure men's feelings. Like Hegseth sharing video of boats blowing up. Or trying to do a livestreamed execution. Very good piece by @garethwatkins.bsky.social.

Liberal Currents@liberalcurrents.com

Pete Hegseth "is a loser, following an ideology by and for losers. That means that he is very concerned that other losers prove their devotion to the religion of death by showing indifference to human suffering." @garethwatkins.bsky.social writes today www.liberalcurrents.com/public-execu...

The tragic thing is that this is also true of Kamala Harris and Hillary Clinton, who had never won a competitive general election against a Republican in their lives.

Leah Gremlinberg ❌👑@leahgreenberg.bsky.social

One thing you’re seeing in the homestretch in both the Senate and the House is that a bunch of these “safe seat” Rs adapted to compete in an entirely intra-Republican ecosystem and are 100% unprepared to navigate an actual general election

Musk says he didn’t cut services to thwart Ukrainian self-defense, the US govt did. A senior US official says the Trump White House had nothing to do with that, implying Musk did it. A problem is they’re both serial liars, Putin sympathizers, and anti-democracy, so who knows.

FinTwitter@fintwitter.bsky.social

Axios reporter: ‘A senior U.S. official said the Trump administration had nothing to do with the alleged Starlink service constraints.’

Starting to wonder who funds this piece of shit rag.

Jacobin@jacobinmag.bsky.social

After years of warnings that the war in Ukraine could spiral into a full-on Russia-Europe conflagration, the conflict has reached a point where this is a real possibliity. It’s a prospect that threatens not just European lives but the entire globe.

I never understood the hate against HOAs as entities. They do the will of your median neighbor and if you hate what they do - which is fair, I often hate the median American - it's mostly just that you hate your median neighbor.

Sam@samd.bsky.social

gotta say I really don’t love the use of the Israeli flag here especially when some of the largest foreign institutional investors in data centers are not even Israeli (primarily the gulf states) Sunrise has truly lost the plot ngl

People who study Western civilization would have all of these people hanged.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Hegseth: "We need students of western civilization and the pillars of our republic. Leaders who understand the faith of Jerusalem, the philosophy of anthems -- Athens. The power of Rome, and the freedom of Philadelphia circa 1776."

We really should just send all of these people to die on Kharg. I don't even think Iran would mind.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Hegseth: "Send me to right the Redcoats, send me to fight the communists, send me to fight the Islamists. Send me."

This is, I think, an incorrect conclusion. There are a lot of things out there I would be happy to hear about that I would nevertheless not support, because it would be socially corrosive.

We polled five routes for Trump to leave office before the end of his term. A plurality of Dems support four of them, including a military coup and death by natural causes. The only one underwater, an assassination, is still supported by 29%.

What drives normies into the hands of Republicans most easily is the idea that Democrats are up to awfully stupid shit.

Next door in Silicon Valley@nextdoorsv.bsky.social

I’ve know a few people - many of whom are immigrants, many whom I would not consider MAGA at all - who hold the view that University of California not accepting standardized test scores for admission is the biggest sign California is off track. It’s… interesting.

The Republicans are also up to dumb shit, but their dumb shit preys on the dark impulses that lies at the heart of America ("expel the foreigner", "kick the leeches off welfare", "bomb the bad guys") whereas the Democrat ideas are alienating AND dumb.

i dreamt a dream, reposted

The US already got a do over. A mulligan. A second chance. Much of the world, especially US allies, were ready to write off Trump’s first term as a fluke. The American people’s choice to put him back in power—as a convicted felon, after an openly bigoted, anti-democracy campaign—showed it was not.

Max Fawcett@maxfawcett.bsky.social

This is the part many Americans -- including the Bezosites at the Washington Post -- don't understand. Canadians don't see this just as a Trump thing. It's that America elected him twice, and the second time with an even bigger mandate. The problem we're addressing is America, not Trump.

"Talarico blew his lead by taking the 80 side of an 80-20 issue" is one of those things that has become folk wisdom on Bluesky despite being incredibly stupid on its face.

USER WAS BLOCKED FOR THIS POST@blockedforthispost.bsky.social

"My point is there are people in Texas that will stay home and not vote for Talarico because of this 1 issue. And Paxton could win because of them." Right. So its very frustrating that he torched any lead he had by being transphobic. That is what is being pointed out.
