"The argument that a species is in no danger because it is very common, is a complete fallacy; but is very often brought forward...by people who have a financial interest in destroying the animals." - Charles Elton, Animal Ecology (1927) Each of these species was very common 1-2 centuries ago.

Firstly, we checked wether the collection event had taken place: ✅ A note and a picture revealed that he was in the indicated locality in that date Secondly, we took a look at the cuticular particle profile using SEM microscopy: ✅ Particles were congruent with the specimen's presence in Spain

Dr Modolell was extremely meticulous and professional, but labelling specimens 'a posteriori' can come at a cost ⚠️ Also, we cannot rule out cross-contamination between specimens during storage. Although this is unlikely! 🌻 Anyway, Dr Modolell's legacy continues to advance science! 🧪

While processing the entomology collection of Dr J. Modolell, we found a Neotropical #Acentroptera leaf beetle! 🔍🪲 The weirdest thing about it, though, was its label, which stated that the collection site was in central Spain. 🏷️🇪🇸 Impossible! Unless...

📄Out now 📄: 90-year trends in Switzerland show declines in butterfly and saproxylic beetle richness around the mid-20th century, linked to agricultural mechanisation. Some groups have recovered in recent decades, especially warm-adapted species. Specialised and cold-adapted species remained low.🦋🪲

🦋🌿High-quality genomes begin with quality biological material. 🐝 Before sequencing, each species is identified, documented, collected, and preserved to ensure integrity. For insects, this requires field expertise, taxonomy, and preservation workflows. Biodiversity genomics starts with the specimen🐞

This is fucking mental. Protesters in the UK can now be convicted of criminal damage but be sentenced as terrorists despite never having been convicted of a terror offence and without the jury knowing anything about it. Just a un unbelievable abuse of power by Justice Johnson.
