I am a biologist and professor in large part because of the field experiences I gained at Brackenridge with Larry Gilbert. They've been wanting to sell this valuable property for decades. In the early 2000s, I was the student rep who spoke to a committee about its value for research.

Not much of a “compromise” since this proposal turns UT’s crown jewel field station into apartments and retail.
Absolutely the fuck not.
A section of border wall that the federal government planned to build along a South Texas wildlife refuge could end up cutting through the refuge instead. The proposed change attempts to resolve a legal dispute in which government contractors are accused of trespassing on property near the refuge.
Sometimes when I hear the stupid scams people have fallen for in online dating I think about the Australian beetle that tries to mate with beer bottles.
Extra high king tides this week bringing a preview of climate change. By 2070, this will be the normal sea level.
King tides and a full moon are causing significant flooding along Las Olas Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale, a warning sign of climate-related infrastructure vulnerability in coastal real estate markets.
An example of how media props up fascists. "Failed to stop"; is not true, of course. GOP policies *actively caused* inflation. But the wording still implies Republicans are good faith actors who want to help Americans. That is the bigger lie, and the one they desperately want us to buy.
Trump promise to bring down costs, but inflation is still outpacing paychecks. With the midterms a week away, Democrats are trying to tap into voters’ frustration in the midterms.

Bolsonaro-friendly mayors appear to be sabotaging public transport on Election Day. Buses aren’t running in Lula-friendly areas, flights and ferries mysteriously canceled. Traffic lights have gone out and people’s power cut in Salvador, indigenous people’s travel restricted
We are watching a coup d’état attempt unfold in real time in Brazil. I’m consumed by desperation.

Grim stories from Brazil. Indigenous voters going to the city a day early because they don’t trust their state not to cut off their travel routes on election day: www.instagram.com/reel/De4z6kP... - while many flights to the north east, a pro-Lula region, have been cancelled without explanation.

NEW: Ingram, Texas, was just rebuilding from a devastating flood when its tiny police department enrolled in ICE’s 287(g) deportation program. Within a year, cops would hand over the equivalent of 10% of the town. with @nytimes.com
Brazil is voting on whether the country wants to become a colony of the United States and its tech oligarchy. Absurd that any Brazilian is even thinking about prostrating their country, the propaganda must be intense if the race is this close.
The race between Brazil's president and the right-wing senator has tightened in recent days.

I’m guessing those of us with gas cars are going to want to fill up shortly before election day, because whatever quick fixes and shenanigans Trump and his allies are pulling to keep prices from spiking even higher will end the instant polls close.
