NEVER forget that the next toddler ear infection is just around the corner and you MUST be ready for it to blow up all of your plans

Why……….. did I tell the other moms on the playground that I used to have ulcerative colitis and that any time I got cold, I would have to run to the bathroom??? They don’t need to know my medical OR bowel movement history. 🤦‍♀️ Neither does Bluesky for that matter… JUST STOP TALKING, ANDREA

Healed by the kid who just let my son have a turn with his construction digger toy after the experience of watching him get left out a couple months ago

Paul McCartney telling Amy Poehler about Linda’s c-section and being the NICU dad bouncing between her and baby Stella ❤️‍🩹 love these NICU dads so much!

The White Sands visitor's center is the sort of place that, if Trump himself saw it in person, he would call it "a dump" (and then hire a subpar contractor to fix it up badly). But instead, the Trump Interior Dept says it's "against the best interests of the American people" to make improvements.

Had such a good day of just me and the 2yo yesterday that I actually miss him today. What is this!!!

“I didn’t want to sweat yet!!!” I yell as I finish wrenching my 2yo inside for a diaper change after he’s been playing outside for 1.5 hours as of 8:20am on a Sunday

SEXISM STRIKES AGAIN I have always been the parent who makes appointments for our son, including with @unm.edu Hospital. My number is the contact number on the account. My husband knows jack shit about when the appointments are or who to even call about them. AND YET—

Addendum: we were asked at one point whether we'd like texts for bills and scheduling. I never really saw those but never thought much of it. THEY HAD BEEN SENDING TEXTS TO MY HUSBAND'S WORK PHONE THAT CANNOT RECEIVE TEXTS.

So not only did they have a made-up address listed for us, not only did they make my husband the guarantor on the account even though I am the point of contact, but they texted a landline without verifying that it was the right number for billing. Absolute nonsense.

I just called UNM-H to pay whatever I can and make sure they have the right address for us. Sure enough, the address is wrong and *I*, the person who does all the work for these appointments for our son, am not authorized to update it because *my husband* got listed as the guarantor of the account.

I had to merge him into a call with UNM-H to approve it. It felt belittling to ask my husband for permission for the things that are in my purview and always have been. Be better, @unm.edu Hospital!

We got sent to collections because our bills from @unm.edu Medical Group have been going to a completely wrong address (we live on 44TH ST, it has been listed as 4ST ST?!), with my husband's name on the account. Somehow THIS collections bill got to us, but not the original ones from UNM-H.

Just another Monday morning of being disappointed by multiple different people who I’m paying thousands of dollars to help me get shit done

Getting anxious every time I see someone else’s fall foliage photos because I haven’t had a chance to get out and the (probably inaccurate after extra rain) foliage calculator said this is the peak weekend for it here 😑

My husband’s dad’s brother and his two (adult) daughters, as well as my husband’s own brother and his two (child, twin) daughters have been visiting this weekend. The weekends are already crazy. And while it’s been a good visit, I am next-level exhausted

Yes yes yes yes yes! Weird to see Los Alamos County still in "extreme drought" but I assume that's in comparison with some historical amount of rain?

🌧️ BIG DROUGHT IMPROVEMENT across New Mexico! Exceptional Drought has been erased from the state after two weeks of heavy rain. Large areas also improved from Extreme to Severe Drought, with some spots now just Abnormally Dry. What a difference a week can make! #NMwx

You know, when you leave Houston for New Mexico, it’s generally safe to think you’re done with hurricanes. But this big one off the coast of Baja is going to still be going (as a depression, sure, but still) when it hits us next week.

This whole thing where Los Alamos keeps losing internet and phone and therefore all connectivity to the outside world thing is getting so damn old.

The high here on Wednesday is only 57 degrees which means I'm forcing my husband under the house to change the air filter on our heater 😀

Scrolling through the Seahawks game tweets on the other site and cannot help but laugh at how pathetically delusional the Cardinals fans sound. You guys know the Seahawks haven't lost to the Cardinals since 2012, right?

Read a story about 3 kids abandoned in the Barcelona train station in the 1970s and they didn't know their parents' names or anything to help them get home. The oldest was like, 6! So you'd better believe my 2.5yo knows his parents' and grandparents' names and we're working on his last name.

We're still working on how to use the names and answer the questions, "What's your mommy's name? What's your daddy's name?" My favorite part is how he pronounces my name, one that kids always struggle with. My little sister called me "Andera" and my son now pronounces it "Andiewa"!

I was MADE for fall, this is the best weather EVER. Rainy, 60 degrees, light breeze, low clouds sitting in the canyons.

Tried to take a timelapse of the clouds on Mount Los Alamos this morning, but of course it was out of focus. Here it is anyway.

Today, the toddler fell asleep in my arms for the first time in forever. His sweet soft eyelids and his soft shoulders. The way he held me tight for one last long hug as I laid him down. These are the rare perfect moments.*

*the rare perfect moments gaslight you into thinking maybe the irritations of living with a terrible two/threenager aren’t so bad

Why did I watch Harry Styles’ Music For A Sushi Restaurant video for the first time right before bed 😳🦑🧜‍♂️🥢

So... for the inevitable rise of AI movie, assuming it's made by real people, we're casting Francois Arnaud as Sam Altman right? (With apologies to Francois, of course.)

I could cry with joy. Today may be the last day of summer in Los Alamos. It’s 84 and a little too sunny (not that bad compared to where I lived in Texas, but I have actually be out in it now that I have a little kid). Tomorrow, it’s down to the low/mid-70s and rainy for the foreseeable future!

Each year, I feel increasingly affected by 9/11 stories. I think maybe it's that with every year I grow older, I meet more kinds of people, I understand more what it means to love them more deeply, I know what it is to love a child preciously and fear that they could meet the same fate some day.

I was a sophomore in high school when it happened, and I truly did not understand the gravity of the moment. Maybe it's because we got to just sit and watch the news in every period that day and while it felt very real, it also felt like a day off from doing schoolwork.

Despite having lived it at an age when I was very conscious, it has been in the retellings and images in the media that I have found meaning in 9/11. That's why it's so important to have people still telling these stories. For me, learning more about it each year has taught me greater empathy.

It's horrible to think of anyone's last moments being so terrifying, so confusing. It makes it almost impossible to endure stories of tragedy anywhere in the world, of which there are too many.

Today I'm thinking of the 2.5yo I read about who was on Flight 175, headed for Disney for her first time. I imagine her parents holding her so tightly at the moment of impact as she probably squirmed to get free, not understanding. I know that's what would happen with my kid, who's the same age now.

WTF @ Moen and/or Home Depot, this is an insane screenshot for one of your product videos. Get Moen! It will make you cry and your mascara run comically!
