Honeycrisp now has simple modem support and can dial websites. Check out the bluesky demo disk, write your own apps using the Threadsnake python implementation, use the Pythia control agent to build whatever you want! (As long as it fits in an Apple IIgs)

Anhedaria Morgendharma@aesthetic.northsky.social

Try my Apple IIgs emulator, Honeycrisp. Bring your own ROM and disk images, or mess around with the built in Palimpsest ROM, with a WIP implementation of Python. Coming soon: Built-in agent that controls the whole machine, BYO tokens! esoterica.ontologi.social/artifacts/ho...

I honestly believe that much of the aggression and outrage around the use of AI is displaced anger about current political conditions in the United States which seem insurmountable. If I'm right, any significant shift to the left should be measurable in sentiment around AI tools.

[giant bong rip] What if we did this with everything? What if we dismantle every moat of capital? Could we stop buying in to their system? Could we build and power a world free of coercive ownership?

I've seen people say not to use the free Adobe alternatives springing up because they're "vibe coded." I promise you engineers at Adobe are using AI too! Embrace the fact that this shift in power dynamics means you can reduce your reliance on highly extractive companies!

“The only person who can effectively guide your tasks is you” goes hard

Ed@ed3d.net

I at this point am like 90% convinced that reusable/shareable skills packages are a bad thing for LLM users. The 10% is that it can show you what's possible; the 90% is that people want to be incurious and just slap something in the only person who can effectively guide your tasks is you

still seems to me like the main value of agents for most people is as a sort of accessibility aid for them to be able to use the full range of capabilities their computer already had

One thing most people don’t know about disability is how unsafe you feel ALL the time. It’s terrifying not being able to trust your body to function properly. It’s scary to need to rely on others for basic survival. It’s frightening watching society label you expendable.

Honeycrisp now ships with a disk library, which will contain various utilities for the built-in Threadsnake python implementation. Write your own software with Palimpsest, the built-in ROM, or play with the built-in Pythia agent to have it write software. The first disk is the DECK window library!

The goal of conservatives is always to use statistical rounding errors as cudgels to enact policies that completely reshape society and oppress those who are different from them

yeah i think it should be more a situation of having an engineer around that looks at oai's sandboxing setup and thinks "oh hell no i am not staking my license on this. i am not at all prepared to answer for all the ways this could go wrong"

re: ai safety bill: ppl already do projects w/ serious safety considerations, & a good framework looks less like "ppl at metr w/ close personal ties to industry leaders decide which models civilians can use" & more "a licensed professional engineer has to sign off on every step of your operations"

One of the more frustrating aspects of engaging in AI policy is that many things about the internet or technology in general have been suddenly thrust into the spotlight due to AI, and people instinctually rally against them without any regard for the collateral damage.

Re:Create Coalition@recreatecoalition.bsky.social

Journalists have used web scraping for 20+ years to expose corruption, track lobbyists, and reveal discrimination. Crawler bans like the Stealth Bot Prohibition Act risk cutting off tools newsrooms use to hold power accountable. Our infographic explains why ➡️ recreatecoalition.org/infographic/...

To be clear, I’m hopping mad because in the last few days I have seen very nice, incredibly smart trans women who I know IRL getting trashed in QT’s by people who don’t even know what a transistor is and frankly I think it’s pathetic that the Luddite side on issues of AI ethics sucks so much

I’m lowkey starting to resent people for not understanding computing from first principles, because the anti-technology rage foments such fervent vitriol and the haters can’t even be bothered to learn but incessantly post from their pocket computers about how they hate them. Go back to postcards.

the number of people i see expressing the desire that AI should be conscious so they can torture it convinces me that 1) they're all sheep who will swallow whatever swill jreg sells 2) they are deliberately performing evil behavior to establish ingroup solidarity, as is a classic in gangs

The factionalism and context collapse on this site fucking sucks and I’m tired of looking at takes that are all vibes with no basis in reality. Just because you don’t like some oligarchs, does not mean that you can just say any randomly incorrect shit you want about technology and have a valid take.

I love automation, i love computers, i love software, i love agents, i love chatbots, i love language models, i love machine learning. I don’t give a fuck if you love suffering and tedium, leave me out of it. I spent 20 years in industry doing shit the hard way and I’m over it.

absolutely unhinged to open up a blog post with a parody of "first they came" that centers "artists" and "mathematicians" bc of recent ai developments meanwhile the usa is actually presently rounding up immigrants to put in concentration camps, jailing protestors on bullshit charges, ice agents are

when you have arthritis from decades of typing hundreds of thousands of lines of code by hand for other people's ideas, a machine that can summon tens of thousands of lines of code for you from a much simpler set of requirements documenting your own ideas is a godsend

American leftists complaining about AI’s easing of tedium in all productive areas of knowledge work as somehow cheapening the results is just Protestant work ethic wearing a leftist pinback button and completely writes off the disability rights aspect of genai as an accessibility tool.

The people who can absorb the most friction in their tools and processes and therefore beat their chests proudly about how much they have Suffered for their Craft are usually the ones who had the fewest unrelated burdens to begin with.

Retreating into “the result doesn’t count” is just what one does when it’s become clear that the argument about whether it works in the first place has been lost. Stop moving pointless goalposts.

I am tired of watching the trans cluster tear itself to pieces over the development of computing, which was unavoidably only ever going to lead into large language models, going all the way back to Turing's 1936 "On Computable Numbers" and Shannon's 1948 "A Mathematical Theory of Communication"

If you like having a computer, using a phone, watching videos, sharing communications across great distances, you owe it all to the underlying math of how all communication works, and that all fundamentally comes down to how brains work. Brains are computational engines, hands down.

You do not get packet networks, fiber optics, any long-haul telecommunications without this math. You just don't. If you don't like it, log the fuck off bluesky and go send a postcard about it. But keep in mind that perceptrons were widely trained on handwriting because the post office needed OCR.
