Gotta get better at posting updates here.
Working on a lil Youtube video discovery project. Community-submitted set of channels, filter videos based on tag/duration/etc, share recommendations with friends.
Been a lot of fun to work on. Sick of seeing AI slop in my sidebar.

That is so crazy, I wonder by what mechanism? Maybe we should take some of the money accrued by the companies/people who profit from AI and distribute it around? Just spitballing
Great video by @dasiasade.bsky.social
"We can't keep acting like every protest should result in immediate legislation or else it's a failure. It's like we need instant gratification, even in our protests. It ignores the cultural shift, the community building..."

"We compare our first drafts to [history's] finished products, and then call ours a failure. We ignore all the invisible work that is happening to move the needle. That type of thinking ignores the long game... the recruitment potential, the clarity that comes from people showing up consistently."
my voice is in this, reading a poem by Jamaal May
it was a tough read, having had some violent shit happen to me, to my friends, and to my hometown
thanks for letting me participate, Sam
The best art I ever made started in a DM with Sam where I said "I have this weird idea and I think it's probably impossible." And she said "That sounds amazing, but yes probably impossible."
This video started the same way, with the roles reversed. It's probably the best art she's ever made. Watch.
LLMs are a legitimately interesting technology, and I wish I *could* be interested in them instead of what is societally required of me (unwavering condemnation) because no-fucking-body in the government, tech c-suite, or grifterverse can be trusted to oversee the development or use of this tech.
This is what's so frustrating about tech bros. They talk about product rollouts in the "spherical cows in a frictionless vacuum" way that a 101 class gets comfy with Newtonian physics.
If our tech is deployed with NO pre-existing societal conditions or incentive structures... it'll work great!
AI suggestions want me to be a robot in a business suit. It might not be "professional" but... I want to talk like myself? I want to use my own jargon? I want to *be an individual?* Is that ok??
What if, instead of making tools to homogenize speech, we make room for many modes of expression?
Ah yes, thank you for giving me a FRIENDLY button, thank you for helping me generating this NORMAL SENTENCE. This is not a weird way to propose a collaboration at all. People talk like this!
It's a huge mistake to "adjust to" or "adapt" to generative AI. There's rarely been a more clearcut situation to reject vehemently for so many reasons. One reason beyond those that apply now is the future capacity for proactive manipulation and distortion. We need less outside interference not more.
I mean, of course it starts with a chapter about the degradation of topsoil and agriculture’s reliance on fossil fuels and projected global food shortages, but you know

Ok so. I do not understand why these people can't get over preferred pronouns. It's just not difficult? It's really not hard?
It's wild to watch what is effectively a mass adult temper tantrum fuel a regressive political movement.
Like you could conceivably have a discussion about the effects of immigration policies or raising the minimum wage or letting tech oligarchs own all of your thoughts, but the anti- preferred pronouns argument has been, for 10 years, "I don't want to 😡 you can't make me."
And sure, you can not want to, and I definitely can't make you, but if THIS is your reason for supporting an anti-worker anti-planet anti-human political movement that would sacrifice you and your children for a stock buyback, then either...
1. no it isn't?
or 2. you are a child.
Love having a perpetual corner to throw a toe on whenever I need a break. The physical interaction between human body + Wall To Go Up will fascinate me forever.

Join me for a very close reading of Cowboy Bebop's strange and evocative 6th episode. I delve into what the story believes about death and purpose, and arrive at some reflection on how it is that art and artists can become immortal. 3, 2, 1...

Out now: AI and the Murder of Truth. And Air Bud.
On AI, education, fascism, paying the Dane-geld, and why there ain’t no rule says a dog can’t play basketball.
The follow up to last year’s “You are a better writer than AI.” If you liked that video, this is worth your time.

You MUST come join the premiere of Josh’s AI ramblings pt2.
I’m stunned by how well he pulled this together. My preliminary watch had me thinking, “yes, this is what a skilled, passionate human writer is capable of. There is no substitute.”

Oftentimes, "mutual aid" feels like a synonym for GoFundMe or Food Bank. Here's how to get creative around creating systems of community support & care.
