I was at Maker Faire a few weeks ago and there were several AI people tabling there. not a single one was doing anything unique. for every AI table there were at least two tables doing the same thing without AI.

the people putting AI into 3D printers, their stuff looked about as good as the regular 3D printed stuff, so it wasn't clear why anyone should get excited that an AI did it. the AI game dev stuff looked obviously worse than the human-made stuff.

not a single new avenue, new style, new practice, or new product made with AI. all the coolest stuff - the cupcake go-karts and crocheted tents and robots and trebuchets and houses made of spoons - were all handmade. they want you to get excited about the technology but you can't see a use case.

you're at the point where you fully accept "the politicians will never, ever listen to their constituents, so we have to pressure the constituents to align with the politicians." and maybe, in a trolley problem sense, that is the more ethical option. but how can you call that "saving democracy"?

like, I kind of get it? the feeling that Dems are gonna do what Dems do. we can scold them to stop running centrists all day every day, but they're gonna run a centrist. so that's what we have to work with.
