The dorsal vagal complex is a satiety center in the brainstem that exhibits rhythmic activity independent of the brain's main clock. This study examines the factors that entraining DVC oscillations, revealing that these #circadian rhythms are entrained by meal timing. 🧪 #AcademicSky plos.io/4xqnlhB

Our CeA GLP-1 story is now online. We've got a lot more cooking in this area and I think this will inform future circuit-guided GLP-1 therapeutics: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti... Great job to my first PhD student, Miguel Duran, who has had a hell of a week.

Really thrilled to share my lab's latest work where we characterize the role of the CeA in integrating exogenous GLP-1 signals. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

Congratulations! Exciting work; it seems like CeA is critical for hedonic food consumption, who would have guessed 😉

Chemogenetic inhibition of CeA GLP-1R neurons resulted in a strong rescue of Ex-4-mediated reductions in high fat diet intake using a hedonic intermittent access paradigm. This suggests that this cell type is playing a pivotal role in the neural circuitry mediating reductions in appetite by GLP-1s.

But is this just an association or is there a causal relationship? Here's where we used inhibitory chemogenetics combined with an army of FED3s (hat tip @kravitzlab.com) to assess whether activation of the CeA was required for the hypophagic actions of Ex4.

It doesn't matter if the Executive Order is illegal. The NIH has demonstrated consistently that it will follow orders from the OMB. Expect immediate action from the NIH on this order. As I told you months ago, the old NIH is gone.

Metformin, the first line drug for Type 2 diabetes, has been used for 60 years without a clearcut mechanism of action. It turns out it's not just reducing glucose output from the liver. Metformin also works via the brain www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Houston researchers found that low-dose metformin needs Rap1 in the brain to lower blood sugar. Without brain Rap1, metformin doesn’t work, but other diabetes drugs still do. The ventromedial hypothalamus is the key control site. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...
