"farming mink for their fur, a cruel and pointless practice, continues in Europe, North America and China. There’s a high chance that the next pandemic, whatever it may be, will emerge in one of these places. .... we need a global treaty to ban mink farming."

📣 Dear #UCP, The vote today in #Alberta? What a massive, massive, massive waste of resources and taxpayers' money. What a hate-mongering debacle. What a lie-infused polarizing clusterf*ck. Shame. On. You. 😡

The #H5N1 outbreak on mink fur farm in Utah was the genotype B3.13 also spreading among cows - and spilling back over from cows to other animals It would be good to have more information about what happened / is happening in and around that mink fur farm.... nextstrain.org/avian-flu/h5...

Not mentioned about this unethical study is "why Guinea-Bissau"? The trial is not to test efficacy - we already know it's effective - it's to test non-specific effects. There is *zero* grounds to do that in a country with high risk of HepB - if UoSD is hell-bent on doing a study, do it in Denmark.

The Danish government and the EU should be looking into this and into Syddansk Universitet - University of Southern Denmark, which has condoned this so-called research. 1/ www.theguardian.com/society/2026...

Mink farming is a massive pandemic risk. It's insane that they are allowed to exist. Now we have an active H5N1 outbreak on a mink farm, & "state officials have no clear plan to rein it in." Imagine if uncontrolled H5N1 transmission in mink were allowed in a research lab...

Since the rise of humans, wild land mammal biomass has declined by 85%. Around 100,000 years ago, all of the wild land mammals on Earth summed up to around 20 million tonnes of carbon. By around 10,000 years ago, there had been a huge decline, likely in the range of 25% to 50%.

Rats are stubborn, clever, & remarkably adaptable. They learn fast, cooperate with one another, avoid danger, and keep going under conditions that wipe out other species. They’ll even free trapped companions and choose to help another rat over receiving chocolate.
