More recently, my art has taken a new direction, utilizing anatomical structures from microCT and different maker technologies to create recognizably biological abstract pieces. I like playing with light and new materials like #3DPrinting. 4/6
Today our paper introducing Megacauda is published in Nature! Which means I can finally share my illustration! Meet this beautifully preserved Jurassic, semi-aquatic swimmer #sciart#paleontology
Latest #mending project. I tried #sashiko#embroidery for this one and loved the process and result. So excited that I'm wearing the pants today!

Iβll be offering my online carbon dust course and workshop this Fall for the Lyme Art Association. Learn the century old technique of carbon dust which combines drawing and βpaintingβ using a dry brush to apply layers of carbon dust to achieve realistic 3D illustrations.

With my upcoming departure from the University of Michigan, I've found myself deep in the job hunt process. Moving back to Canada from the U.S is certainly something I'm really looking forward too. If any π¨π¦ labs (especially in Alberta) are searching for a Β΅-CT expert, please let me know!
Oh hi new followers! Welcome! I'd be curious to hear where you're all coming from. I'm not super active at the moment - focusing on IRL stuff for myself - but I'm around. I'm working on a project that is a little different from my norm, but I'll share it when it's more complete, so that's coming.
Hello, internet!
Things are bad for our trans & queer friends in the US, so I teamed up with bsky's nature artists to create this pack containing 80 wallpapers and growing.

There are people who think they are strong because they close themselves off from empathy, when in reality they are afraid to be vulnerable and they are letting their fear win.
Leaving FB will be fairly easy for me. I think it's mostly just given the illusion of connectedness for a while. Instagram, however, will be harder. What are people using as alternatives? Is Cara good?
Some of the content I will miss from Insta are the videos of people making things, all sorts of things that I never thought about how they were made. I esp enjoy seeing vids of traditional crafting. Any recommendations for accounts to follow to see more of that type of thing here?
I've been very much focusing on making things lately - it's been good for my mental health. Been sewing and #mending lately for a bit of something different. My current works in progress are some elbow patches on a chambray shirt and a dress I'm #upcycling to a duster/surcoat!
Playing around with water soluble PVA support for the first time! At this point I'm not wowed by it, but maybe I'll feel different once I clean all the supports off. #3Dprinting
Just found out that there are a lot of books from MIT Press: Open Access Materials on the Internet Archive, including Preparing Dinosaurs: The Work behind the Scenes. Check it out archive.org/details/mit_...
I think we have @textfiles.com to thank for this! As soon as I was told about this archive, I immediately found Preparing Dinosaurs, opened it and then, like a magnet, immediately found the section abt CT scanning fossils, which is what I do. It felt funny/strange to end up immediately there.
Iβve been working with the NoCTURN team on developing the new Education & Training Resources 2.0 page β a hub of tutorials, videos, and peer-reviewed papers to help researchers understand the basics and intricacies of non-clinical CT data.

Since thereβs finally been a proper migration of academia to bluesky, hereβs a link to my most recent paper thatβll give you a sense of what I do. If you recently followed me and we were in touch on βtwitterβ please say hi!

#Education resource! Over the years I created this collection of colored skull #3Dmodels for teaching. They're available to download on MorphoSource & to view on Sketchfab. Because of recent changes to Sketchfab, I migrated them to my website: www.graysvertebrateanatomy.com/work/colorso... (1/3)
Hi Folks! Looks like itβs time for a reintroduction!
I started my career as a scientific illustrator and visualizations person (3D, animation, etc.) at UChicago focusing on early mammals. #sciArt 1/6

A couple years being hired as an illustrator, I became lab manager, tech, and go-to person for the UChicago PaleoCT Lab, where we microCT all sorts of cool things! #uCT#microCT 3/6
1. The conventional explanation for food desertsβthat these places are too poor or too rural to generate enough spending on groceries, or too Black to overcome racist corporate redlining β fail to grapple with a key fact: food deserts didnβt used to exist. My new piece in The Atlantic.
@itgrrl.com Using clearsky, I saw I was on your solarpunk list. It made me so happy! I really vibe with solarpunk, but I'm still figuring out what that looks like - it's a bit nebulous. If solarpunk comes through in my content and art, then I consider that a win. Thank you!
This is part of who I am, I use X-ray tomography to study plant biology. This X-ray microscope scan shows a developing flower from a collard green, helping Antonio Brazelton to study collards in urban agriculture. Hoping to recapture my network from the other site!
A reintroduction thread is coming. One problem I have with social media is that if I can't take the time to really edit and consider my posts, then I generally feel it's best not to post. As a result, I don't post much, and what I do takes more time than I'd like.
Time for the @bsky.app community to see one of my favorite visualizations of climate change...
