Looking at Canadian university financials and man, Western had a good year last year. For 2025-26, it posted a surplus of $268M or +15% (natl avg = +4%). It's mostly due to some amazing investment results (hire their advisers if you can!) - their operating budget isn't qute so hot. Still.

I get 2-3 AI book promo scams a day. But a self-identifying AI agent reading my obscure blog feels like a Freudian slip from a creepy future.

According to this moment's version of me. A few perfect. A few imperfect but somehow more perfect for it. Breaking Bad, oddly grudgingly. And had to give a kdrama & an offbeat Aussie comedy some love.

So many moving parts & last-minute scrambling to get this post up in time for Sunday's 50th anniversary of the Ark's opening. Just like the Ark's opening itself! #princeedwardisland #pei #envhist #cdnhist

One of the things we do in this post is annotate & embed the transcript of a 1976 talk by Amory Lovins. Super simple to do - & pretty useful, I think. Lots of potential applications.

This is fun: @joshmacfadyen.bsky.social & I have assembled a 3-parter for @nichecanada.bsky.social about the environmental turn on #PEI in 1976. Today, pt. 1 launched: niche-canada.org/2026/09/14/p... Wed, pt.2 on Energy Days. Fri, pt.3 on the opening of the Ark, 50 yrs ago this weekend.

Realizing that I'm working simultaneously on 4 small, completely distinct writing projects at the moment. Is that efficient? No. Will any of them lead to a book? No. But are they fun? Yes. Weird? A couple.

Yesterday, I had a 10-minute touch-up laser surgery 5 years after cataract surgery & I wish I could show you just how amazingly good my vision is. I’m going to spend all day today just looking at things.

Just an American chemical rep, in the wake of Silent Spring, explaining to a Canadian Parliamentary cttee in 1963 why we couldn't give up on pesticides like DDT: we needed to feed the impending population explosion ...that would, uh, result in Doomsday on 13 Nov 2026. Good times. #cdnhist #envhist

Just realized that Doomsday is 100 days away! If the prediction turns out not to be accurate, I'll write about it after. (Because if I publish something in advance & it's accurate, what's the point?) #envhist #envhum
